Looking to upgrade my Janome 6600

I have a janome 6600. It’s about 8 years old. Works fine but am looking to up grade to a 8200. It seems to be more in my price range and I like the 11” throat plus the 9mm stitch width. Does anyone have any pros or cons to report on this machine. Thank you in advance.

I have the 8200 and absolutely love it. The 11” throat space has allowed me to make the size quilts I like without shoving and scrunching . Doing FMQ on it is a dream. I’ve never had tension issues in the 3.5 years I’ve owned it. Auto Thread cutter —I’m spoiled to it now. The machine is quiet, easy to program, as fast as I need, makes nice stitches, has the drop in bobbin easy to see . No regrets at all.

I also have an 8200, I also love it. In MHO, you cannot go wrong with an 8200. I sews beautifully, and makes free motion on a DSM a dream.

If my house was on fire and I could only save one thing, it would be my 6600. I wouldn't trade it for anything but that's just me. Good luck with the 8200 it sounds like a great machine.

I had a 8200 and had no complaints except it didn't have all the stitches I wanted. I upgraded to the Horizon 9400 and loving it. I think I would be happy with any Janome though. I do like the extra light, the bigger throat, the thread cutter and threat to name a few of the extras.

I have a 6600 that is over 11 years old. I am thinking about the 9400. Love the idea of the light and the free arm. Now I have to figure out the financing.

Jannie, can I ask which stitches you got on the Horizon that were not on the 6600? I am thinking of upgrading from an elderly 4800 but am paralysed by the choices. I'll check them all out at FoQ, Birmingham later this year but want to be armed with some information. Thanks

Same here...I purchased an 8900 a few years back thinking that I would sell my 6600 but I just couldn’t do it. It is a workhorse and great machine.

I have the 9400 & absolutely love it. I will never outgrow it. It is so user friendly. Comes with a knee lift (I think that is what it is called). I got mine for half price & no fiance fees which is how I was able to buy mine. Love all that extra throat space, the pull out lighting, automatic start without having to lower your needle or presser foot & the push button lock in button (no more reverse). I hope you give this dream machine a look.

Thanks for the inputs. I love my 6600 also but was looking at the bigger throat, lights, free arm and a few other amenities without break8ng the bank. I doubt I would sell my 6600 as my daughters has her eye on it and what they would allow me for a trade in I would rather give it to her. LOL. I will check into the 9400 also. Just don’t want to get into too high a price. Will keep u posted.
