I ordered these gypsy quilters and just look at all the nubs to grip the fabric so it doesn't slip!

One of my machines is in the shop getting a checkup right now, so maybe I'll give it a try on another one later today. Must clean house 1st .

I've been thinking of getting these. Keep us updated on how they work.

LoisN 02-03-2010 12:13 PM

What are they used for? Looks like some sort of torture device to me.

 they are used to hold your fabric when you free motion quilt instead of using gloves. You can keep your project flat and avoid bunching. Take a look here

Waiting to hear how they work!

ladygen 02-03-2010 03:56 PM

Oh, me too! Would LOVE to know if these are worthwhile!

littlehud 02-03-2010 07:40 PM

I haven't seen those before. They look cool. Let us know what you think for them.

sewnsewer2 02-03-2010 08:09 PM

It's too late to try it tonight (11 pm now) so I'll try them tomorrow.

gramqlts 02-03-2010 08:11 PM

I've never seen these before either.....what a great idea. Can't wait to see how you like them before I rush out to find some. I hate wearing gloves and usually just go with the flow barehanded.

Deecee 02-03-2010 08:50 PM

I'm not having any luck getting any information on them in Aust. but I will keep looking.

Very interested to hear what you think of them.

sewnsewer2 02-04-2010 10:28 AM

UPDATE!

Ok, I tried it today and it gets an A+ from me! Those little nubs really hold the fabric and it doesn't slip and slide like my gloves do.

It is comfortable to hold on to and move when I need to.

On the small one the circumfrence is 5-1/2" and the bigger one is 7-1/4" stitching area.

I got mine at creatforless.com

Hope this helps ya'll!

ladygen 02-04-2010 10:41 AM

Did you baste first, or did it hold your sandwich together for you?

brushandthimble 02-04-2010 10:44 AM

they look like they may be worth checking into, thanks for the info:)

amma 02-04-2010 10:54 AM

Thank you for letting us know that these work!!! :D:D:D

No, I just tried it on a scrap sandwich didn't do anything except slap the fabric together with the batting (W&N).It held securely.

I tried one that a friend has that is round and it had foam on the bottom (where the nubs are) and I liked it.

I like mine better tho, because the nubs will last longer and not crumble after time like the foam will.

I used my kenmore to 'test'; it doesn't have an extention table so I figure if it works on this machine, I won't have any trouble with my Bernina that does have the table.

My bernina is at the shop getting a check up today is why I couldn't use her to test.

ladygen 02-04-2010 11:07 AM

Nice. I'm excited to receive a pair of my own in the mail!

quiltsRfun 02-04-2010 11:22 AM

Thanks for sharing. I always have trouble with the gloves. This is now on my list of must haves.

SulaBug 02-04-2010 11:27 AM

This sounds quite good. I'm one of those quilters who tense up my shoulders gripping the quilt even with gloves. This might help solve some shoulder pain.

Haven't been able to locate it in Aust. and the U.S. sites that I have looked at don't ship overseas, but I will keep looking.

Thanks for the link sewnsewer2. Createforless don't ship overseas but Ericas will. I have still had no luck even finding any info about the glide here so I will look more closely at Ericas site - I have only had time for a quick look so far. Thanks for your help.

Thank you also to Ladygen for your offer. I have pm'd you.

You're welcome, I hope you can get it.

I'm going to get my Bernina back today and I'll test it on that machine too and report back. It won't be until after 4 PM eastern time tho.

Deecee 02-05-2010 09:30 PM

I'll be interested to hear how you go with it.
