Lotus Quilt using Hex and More Ruler top done!

2 Attachment(s)
I just finished piecing my lotus quilt top.
The ruler is the Hex and More Ruler by Jaybird Quilts. I didn't buy the Lotus pattern. It's just triangles. As much as I love buying patterns (I have a problem. I'm a pattern and book junkie) I didn't see buying this one. Sorry, Jaybird Quilts.

This was an easy quilt to make. I plan on making a few more.

I used the largest jewel size for this. The quilt measures 72x83.
I just got the backing out of the dryer and I'm ready to do some spray basting. I'll post pictures once it's quilted but I couldn't wait. I wanted to share by bright happy lotus with you guys :D

For the side triangles I just cut the triangles in half and then sewed a 1 1/2" strip of fabric to the cut side so that I'd exceed my seam allowance in those triangle tips. I knew I wanted a border of some sort so it worked out quite nicely.. and there's a bonus!... nifty floating tips in the borders. This will look really awesome when using the smaller sized jewel cuts since there will be more of them hanging off the edge of the quilt in to the border..

I have other ideas on how to deal with the side triangles but just lopping them off and adding a border was what I wanted to do with this one. The next one I'll experiment with something else. There will definitely be a next time. I'm already plotting the next 2 or 3...

Great job. I have the ruler and pattern also...I know I'm a junkie for patterns and rulers :( . Mostly I manage to be able to design the quilt in EQ on any pattern I see on the market, but sometimes it's just easier to purchase the patterns.

It would take me forever to reproduce it in EQ so I usually just buy the patterns but this one was for me like putting together square after square. There just wasn't much to it. I do think I'll be getting her sidekick ruler so that I can do the block of the month, Park Bench. I really like that one a lot. That's a pattern I will definitely get. I like that there are so many blocks in it. I might also get the Toes in the Sand block of the month while I'm at it....
