The combination of quilting and the total piecing in that quilt are phenomenal.....and while I'm sorry April's surgery hasn't gone without some hickups, I'm glad to hear something about her. I've been wondering, but didn't want to ask. Is there a thread devoted to her well-being?

Dakota Rose 03-09-2014 07:30 AM

raksmum 03-09-2014 08:19 AM

Beautiful, both the quilt and the quilting! I have a question for any of you that quilt. I noticed that there was two different battings put in to this one. What is the reason for using two? I am not questioning, just curious. I find that the 80/20 seems to be "flat" so am wondering if this is why you add a second. I haven't used any other kind but would like a quilt that has a little more poof than what I am getting. I don't free motion much so it is not like the quilting is dense. Any info or help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Beautiful quilt and quilting.

I don't know what you meant when you said you double batted - did you use the two together? One over top of the other? Stunning quilt work and embroidery. I think you could take an old housecoat and make it look like a robe of royalty! Thank you.

Yes that is exactly what I do. I love the definition two layers of batting give to the quilting, almost a faux trapunto. It does make for a very warm quilt though, so I wouldn't recommend it for warmer climates. Also I think it would be very difficult to do quilting by hand or on a DSM unless it was set up to quilt on a rack system. I LA quilt on a rack and my LA is a real work horse and has no trouble quilting through two layers of batting.

thanks everyone for all your kind comments. I can't wait to return this quilt to April and am praying for a successful surgery and a complete recovery for her.
