Finally got my fabric with the Geisha Girl.
I'm glad I ordered 48 inches and not the 24. I was thinking it was a panel because that is what it looked like on the website.

It's beautiful! You MADE me buy the black! LOL! I have no idea what I'll do with it, so make sure you post your creation. I need direction! Isn't it lovely?

tlrnhi 04-20-2008 07:26 PM

Well? Thinking it WAS a panel, I was going to Attic Window it. I'm still going to do it, but not exactly sure HOW. It definitely won't be a wall hanging, want it for a quilt. Just need to figure that part out now since there are so many of them girls on the fabric. UGH!!
I wished it had said that on the website before I ordered it.
Sooo...now I need to "hurt" my brain figuring this out.

Harmony 04-20-2008 07:39 PM

Barb M 04-20-2008 09:38 PM

Oh i am sure you will make something really spectacular with that, i can hardly wait to see :)

Izy 04-20-2008 09:48 PM

Tirhni your new fabrics are 'AB FAB' - I agree with you that to showcase the main fabric you gonna have to come up with something VERY special, you can do it girl!! :D :D

Just had a flash of inspiration - what about a harlequin centered on the geisha????? but hey what do I know, not having even finished one quilt yet tee hee!! :D :D

tlrnhi 04-20-2008 09:49 PM

I was actually thinking of squaring off the fabric so that I had 5 Geishas. That would leave the bottom one on it's on piece of fabric. Then Attic Window the BIG piece, and make a pillow out of the last Geisha.
It would cut the bottom 2 Geishas at about the waist, but that' about all I can figure on cutting it. I'm actually scared to cut it. Not because of the cost, but because it's so pretty.

Chele....Not MY fault you bought. You just have good taste like me! :)
I'm thinking of ordering 48" more in the burgandy and 48 " in the black. Not sure...still up in the air on that. I do have my order from Joanns coming in, not that any of the fabric that I ordered will match it.
Have you gotten yours yet???

Belinda 04-21-2008 02:43 AM

Wow, I can't wait to see what you do with this beautiful fabric!

I have a few pieces that I have bought that I'm afraid to cut. Not only because it's so pretty, but because of the price I paid. Sometimes I just pay WAAAY too much for the fabric, but it's one of those....I GOTTA HAVE IT!!

sondray 04-21-2008 04:16 AM

Beautiful fabric! Can't wait to see what project you come up with. I know whatever you decide will be gorgeous.

Are you done yet??? Can't wait to see what you do with that beautiful fabric.

Feathers 04-21-2008 03:03 PM

Tirni:
You fabric is so, so pretty. When I was in the city a couple weeks ago I shopped at a Fabric Depot store and they had lots of Oriental Fabric just like yours in the different colors. They had one of Mt. Vasuvius in the background with the Geisha in the foreground in pale orange & coral colors that was absolutely smashing. My DSIL bought a couple pieces to make a wall hanging for her DDIL who has gone with the Oriental decor in the master bedroom. I can't wait to see what you do with your fabric.

I was so hoping these were actually panels and not just the length of the fabric. Good thing I ordered the 48 inches instead of the 24.
I'm probably going to order a couple more sections of 48, but going to get in touch with a friend of mine who is getting a stash ready to send to me and see if she can find the fabric near her house.

Celeste 04-22-2008 02:55 AM

It's beautiful, and like all the others I'm anxious to see what you come up with!

quilterj 04-26-2008 02:13 PM

I got the same fabric collection in both colors! I made sure I got 5 geishas, but I only ordered one yard of each of the coordinating fabrics but not sure if I will use them.

I too think an attic window pattern is the way to go, but I'm looking to do varied sizes, and use some other images, like pagodas, or cranes flying through the moon, if I can get the colors close enough so the quilt doesn't get toooo busy.

My other thought was to use all 5 geishas, framed with an oblong churn dash, one in the center and the other 4 at the corners and a lattice in the alternating blocks.

I think I would like to do the borders with a black oriental lattice but have yet to figure out what I want inside the lattice. Maybe a fusion fabric from light to dark, maybe using gold to burgandy.

It is going to take me forever to make a bed quilt from this collection because I can't design it until I'm sure that I have everything I need to make what is in my imagination transferable to the quilt! I'm still looking for fabric for it and that can take forever!

For those of you that like the Geisha Girl fabric I got, Craftconn.com has it on sale for $4.82/panel. I paid $5.89/panel for mine.
But, just to warn you. I got the Geisha Girl in the middle, and 4 around her. For me to get that much, I ordered 2.
I just put in an order for more. This time I am ordering 4, so that will give me 2, which is what I THOUGHT I was originally getting.
Clear as mud, right?

There's also some Koi fabric on sale too!
Here is the blue koi like I have...

I don't like to cut REALLY pretty fabric. Maybe Shadow Dancer needs to come here and help me along! She makes AWESOME quilts!

Missi 04-29-2008 05:34 AM

What beautiful fabric. I just might have to get some myself.

Since I have started to hang out around here with everyone I am noticing that my credit card balance is getting larger. Coincidence :?:

That seems to happen alot to me too!
But, my "allowance" that hubby allows me is dwindling REALLY fast!
If I keep it up, I'm going to have to get a job!
OH NO!! Then I wouldn't have time to quilt or be here!

stitchinMamaw 04-29-2008 09:03 AM
