I love the combination of blues and browns. Good luck on the long arm quilting lessons.

Hello--I'm new to this website. I read your post. My LQS has the same deal. I took a four-hour lesson, but I didn't think it was enough time on the machine to be able to do it without someone standing by. The woman who taught the class told me what days she worked and invited me to rent time on the machine when she was there to help out (her other job duties taking priority, of course). I wouldn't have wanted to try it on my own. After a second class, however, I think I could give it a shot.

Love your star quilt. I am making star blocks using a method for the flying geese by Quiltmaker pattern. and most of my points are being cut off. There is not enough space around the edges. I am so dissapointed , it was to be a birthday gift. When I have enough blocks for this quilt , I am throwing the pattern away.

yes you can accomplish this. The trick is to know how to do the pattern before you take the class. That way you only have to concentrate on how to handle the machine and get use to it. You learn the patterns by drawing them on paper. Do freemotion quilting on your home machine. It doesn't have to have good tension, just practice the pattern and howto draw your thread up to start, take 3 little stitches to lock your thread. Then quilt a little, take three little stitches to knot off and learn to draw up your thread to the top to cut both of your threads on the top of the quilt. If you practice these things you will be able on learning things like how to turn the machine on and how to take just one stitch at a time, how to advance your quilt sandwich. Don't go in cold, never having tried freemotion quilting and not knowing the edge to edge pattern you want to use to quilt your top. Your top is wonderful.

How do I know these things. I teach one of those classes.

I did the same pattern at a quilting retreat in October. It goes together so easy. My friend is doing a king. Im not that brave. Yours is very nice.
