How can you tell if quilt is machine made or handmade. Some quilts look like they are handmade and then I find a manufactures tag.

Look at the stitching...............machine stitches are going to be pretty much consistent.........hand stitching will vary somewhat.......maybe not much at all to very obvious.

The ones that have tags on them have pretty large stitches. We call them toe hangers. LOL It is usually easy to tell the difference in machine and hand quilted. Machine the stitches are consistent and hand quilting depending on the expertise of the quilter looks hand quilted. I know clear as mud.

Try to spread near a seam- the Chinese imports are almost basted compared to home-made. Also, use common sense - if an old quilt is presented as an antique, it will be heavier and more inconsistantly filled batting than modern.

Thanks for the tips, I could use a few more. i want to sell the quilts but I dont know if they are old or new. i know that the ones with polyester batting are newer but if i cant see the batting??? I qill look again a the stitching.
