Really cute. Something else I might have to try.

Yes, they both are flannel. I had gone to JoAnn's to pick up some since it was on sale for $2.99/yd. I just love the monkey fabric so I bought all they had, 3 3/8 yards. lol

Thank you so much for posting this and the link to the tutorial! You can't even understand what a boost this has been for me! I have a 4 month old granddaughter at Duke Univesity waiting on a bone marrow transplant. I have waited 9 years for a granddaughter to sew for and there is nothing I can do until she comes home. This morning I was at the store waiting for them to open, found the exact flannel I was hoping for and have 2 blankets already pakaged to mail to NC. If she can't come home (YET) to her Strawberry Shortcake nursery, Gramma can now send part of her nursery to her. I've always said "face the world with a smile, you never know who might need it!" thanks for sending me a smile!

Debbie, I am so glad I could inspire you and help your little granddaughter.

Does she have a match for the transplant?

DebbieKT 05-07-2012 04:18 AM

Yes! A cord blood donor. We are currently T-18 days to transplant. If the Good Lord grants her the strenth to withstand the chemo pre-treatments and the actual transplant, we hope to bring her home for the first time by mid September.

Well I pray the transplant goes great and she is home very soon!

Those are cute !
don't know how you did the self binding; I watched a tut on it and cut fabric and measured and got frustrated and etc ! Ended up just making envelope style. They are nice but really wanted the contrasting fabrics and nice mitered corners. Arggggg......will try again someday--just not now. Any tips ?

Dianemarie, what tut did you watch? The one I posted?

Just make sure your larger fabric is at least 10" square larger...that is what happened with the girlie one, I cut it too small. And what I do is pin the centers as shown, then just pin the 4 corners. I start at the center on one side to leave my opening to flip, but the rest I start at the corners, 1/4" away. I leave the center pin in so I can line up my fabric. Just remember you will have a fold in the corner so make sure you don't sew it, make sure all the raw edges line up and the underneath is flat. By the third blanket, I had gotten pretty good at it....the third one was the monkey one shown. If I do another blanket, I will try to take pictures.
