Thanks You! It was from Creative Quilting magazine back in the 90's but its a basic double irish chain, with 1.5 inch strips and the larger shamrocks were cut from a different fabric and wonder under'ed on. Heres a large picture of it , so you can see how the blocks are constructed.

Absolutely beautiful - well done !!!!! My daughter has wanted a table runner for St. Patty day and I would love to do something like you did in a table runner for her next year but can never find a nice shamrock to copy.

Thank you for the link for the pattern. It is a nice block, and I'm thinking it would make a great "frame" for some machine embroidery too.

SandyinZ4 03-14-2011 07:37 AM

Thans, too for showing a larger pic of the Shamrock/Irish chain quilt. It is a beautiful creation.

and I had the perfect birds fabric to fussy cut the center. Took just a few hours to do . FYI the instructions are for using thangles papers for the half squares. If you are using rotary then they need to be cut 3 7/8 so you will have 2 completed 3.5 inch half squares. The solid squares need to be adjusted accordingly I think they ended up being 3.5 too . So you may have to make minor adjustments so wait to cut your center square until you piece a block and measure. I didn't figure that out until I was putting it together and the center square needed to be cut down to fit the rows so mine is a bit smaller. But it was fun to do :-)

Love it nice color choices..
