Sweet indeed.

Where did you find the 'extra strong' magnet?

Turned out my hubby had a bunch in the workshop..no idea where they came from

Our engraver gets them for use on name tags as an alternative to the pinbacks or tack backs. Will ask which supplier he orders them from.

auto supply stores carry some

That is SO clever and so pretty.

that is neat! I use a magnetic dish that we bought at harbor freight...I think they sell it for mechanics to put screws or whatever in. Yours is much prettier!

AshleyO 07-25-2010 04:57 PM

Nice!! I really need to make one :)

gollytwo 07-25-2010 05:46 PM

I bought mine at Walmarts in the auto section

franie 07-25-2010 05:48 PM

How did you make it?

MaMaKithkin 07-25-2010 05:49 PM

this is so cut & clever. Is it just a llittle plate with a magnet attached to the bottom?

There was s link posted on another thread to a tutorial for this.

Yours is so pretty. I have a couple of dishes to make some myself.

I got those magnets at WM also, in the crafts section. they are small, I think I will look at Hobby Lobby and see if they have a bigger size.

What a cute idea. I need to find some pretty little bowls now.

Very pretty pin dish. I have one word of precaution... Do Not use it anywhere near your computerized sewing machine. When I owned my Quilt Shop, I had one sitting beside my machine, it held everything from pins to paperclips. Anyway, one day the Janome dealer popped in for a visit and noticed the dish. Needless to say, I got reamed out, because apparently the stronger magnets can harm your computer in the machines. To this day, I now use a weighted pincushion, no metal or magnets near my machines.

I had wondered about that...although I personally do not have a computerized machine, it's something to think about when giving them away.

Pineapple Princess 07-26-2010 10:16 AM

Very cute!

Harbor Freight, of course! They cater to quilters without even knowing it! LOL

Thank you for letting us know that these strong magnetic bowls need to be place far enough away from the computerized sewing machine, very good advice. I purchased two very pretty, small bowls from a garage sale, for this purpose, they measure about 4 inches wide by 3 inches long, they only hold about 25 pins safely, any more and the pins fall out .We don't have a "Harbor Freight" store in our area. I used 3M mounting tape to adhere the magnetic's to the bottom of the bowl. In all fairness to the gal that posted this note, I still plan to use the idea, but will move it far enough away.
