What an awesome idea. She did a great job!!!

Since all I had to work with, for a pattern, was a picture, I used some scraps and did a 2 inch strip, 2 1/2 inch strip and a 3 inch strip, and ended up using the 3 inch strips. Odd, I know, to start with an even inch strip, but it gave me the best look. The strip blocks squared up at 8 inches, and that is what I cut the floral blocks. Also, because 8 inch blocks made the best use of a 42 inch wide floral fabric. Sometimes I go outside the box, to make my quilts. Hope this helps you.

Great tradition! Love that pattern. Looks like a great way to get a top fast, but complicated looking! Are the strips cut at 2 1/2 or 3 1/2? I have a bold print that would look good framed this way!

She did an amazing job on her quilt!

My grandma did something similar with me when I was about 10, though the quilt I made was much smaller - and it still needs a finished binding, since she made me do every single step! I love that I share this bond with her and I feel so lucky that she's taught me and encouraged me in my quilting every step of the way. So - your grandkids are lucky, too! Maren did a beautiful job and you should both be very proud!
