Marking a quilt with soap and a protractor

Necessity is the mother of invention, so it is said. I wanted to mark off baptist fan curves in the border, quilt had already been sandwiched and quilted on the inside. A sliver of hand soap pushed with a protractor worked great.

I like to use regular white chalk sharpened with a pencil sharpener but a soap sliver works too.

Good reason to save those soap slivers, great thinking.

How clever. Thanks for sharing. It is always hard to find markers for dark fabrics.

I use the protractor to make my circles. took a couple of comic book boards and made templates for fans. Great combo protractor and soap sliver/pencil

I use soap slivers on dark fabrics. Have wondered if it will harm my machine.

Very clever.

I think what you meant is a compass. I have one that can old a pencil - well worth the purchase price. There might be a clever way to attach the soap sliver using some clips… to avoid slippage and just a tedious process.
I've used soap before to mark a quilt but the problem has been that it can rub off before you get there. It's just as well you marked it after doing the inside. Please post the finished quilt! |
