McKenna Ryan Wall Hanging

1 Attachment(s)
I just love all McKenna ryan's patterns, but very hesitant to have a go....But feeling brave after buying this pattern more than 6 months ago.
Am pleased with the outcome, seeing I only used fabrics that I had at home.
I am hanging it with pride in my entry down stairs.
Now have two more in mind as well.

Terrific job on this!! Her patterns are great!

Baysidegal 02-23-2012 02:10 PM

Beautiful job! I love MR's patterns as well. I have a couple of her patterns just waiting for me to get the nerve to start them.

Mrs B 02-23-2012 02:13 PM

You've done a fabulous job on this Paula 153. I love McKenna Ryan's patterns too but am very hesitant about getting any. They are expensive aren't they. I love her Christmas Down Under and may save up for that for Christmas.
This will look lovely hanging in the entry, well done.

Tweety2911 02-23-2012 02:18 PM

Beautiful and should be displayed for all to see!

PinkLotus 02-23-2012 02:20 PM

Very beautiful and you done an awesome job!

Drue 02-23-2012 02:23 PM

I bought the entire set of the "Home Tweet Home" as part of my Christmas....I have the first block done except for the applique" I don't hand applique" and am wondering if I can do the blocks justice with machine applique'. I have been doing machine applique' for years. so I'm not a newbie at this, but there are SO many tiny pieces, I'm afraid they will "overshadow" each other even with a very small satin stitch. I put it aside for now...haven't given up and will eventually do it, I'm sure. I just started another applique' group..."Affairs of the Heart"...and have 12 of the 36 blocks ironed/fused but not appliqued. More small pieces, but not like MR's.
How did you applique' yours, or did you since you are using it as a wall hanging?

pacquilter 02-23-2012 02:54 PM

You did a really beautiful job. I'd sure be proud of it, too!

TerryQuilter 02-23-2012 03:13 PM

Beautiful job. MR patterns are on my bucket list. Was it hard to do? Were the instructions easy to follow?

rootyr 02-23-2012 03:20 PM

I love her patterns but have yet to do one. Yours is gorgeous!!

I have one of her BOM that I'm going to start on shortly. From the ones I've seen at the quilt shows that were finished and from what I've read you do a straight stitch around the applique pieces, not a satin or button hole or any type of applique stitch. Because these are art quilts and not meant to be machine washed is the reason. I'm pretty sure I either read it on her web site or in my directions also.

Drue I have done several MR's and I fuse allthe pieces down and then meander quilt all over with nylon (invisable) thread, since it will not be washed it holds everything down quite well.

That is so pretty!!!

nabobw 02-24-2012 05:30 AM

very very nice.

Sew N Tune 02-24-2012 05:31 AM

Great job. Your fabric choices are spot on. Love that ocean water fabric.

catladyquilts 02-24-2012 05:48 AM

you did a great job

BeckySt 02-24-2012 07:02 AM

That is gorgeous, I did one a couple years ago it is still waiting for final border. They are fun, just a lot of cutting.

oksewglad 02-24-2012 08:42 AM

What a neat little quilt. She is a very versatile designer, isn't she? I have Storybook Farm and Back on the Farm patterns waiting for me to tackle. She has something for everyone.

Sallyjane 02-24-2012 08:44 AM

I love her patterns too. Your wall-hanging is great and goo for you to use only fabric on hand.

star619 02-24-2012 08:56 AM

I've done a couple of MR quilts, and used iron-on applique. Then I went back and did a raw-edge stitch about a thread or two away from the edge. You can either change the thread to match, or use nylon "invisible" thread & very small stitches. It's tedious, but not hard. Good luck!

paula153 02-24-2012 01:11 PM

Hi there, it is all raw edge machine applique, and then quilted over the top.

pls1946 02-24-2012 01:50 PM

Very nice....looks like a lot of cutting to fit.

Jo Doherty 02-24-2012 02:16 PM

Love it, would like to know the name of the pattern.

Blinkokr 02-24-2012 02:33 PM

Just lovely, great job and thank you for sharing
Have a Blessed day
Ellen

RedGarnet222 02-24-2012 02:35 PM

What a great job you did on this! I think you should display it with pride in someplace prominent.

hockeymom444 02-24-2012 07:55 PM

I like the 3-D effect. It is a great piece! Good job!

LETIA 02-24-2012 07:58 PM

Beautiful job!

kat13 02-24-2012 09:57 PM

You did a beautiful job on this! I just started a block from her farm pattern, its nice you can just buy one block! This
could become addicting! Can't wait to see your next one!

The pattern is from the quilt "lake Forest". The pattern is
way Down Under...

babeyruth 02-25-2012 02:53 PM

This is cool! I am so glad to see it without the subtle soft color she uses..I am attracted to brights!
