MaryAnn sent this quilt to us for LAQ.
YOu may remember the waves and bubbles being her other one? Anyway...MaryAnn bought these vintage bark cloth drapes after going on a trip to the Grand Canyon with her sister. I think this is such a great way to create a souvenir don't you? Anyway Sally was kind of going to do a navaho theme and then changed it up a bit and went with the designs that were actually in the fabric. The geometric lines, and the cactus type leaves...Mixing it all up and making them play nice together. I love the final finish. Beautiful! Sally quilted this on her 26 INNOVA and we used Hobbs poly down batting. Thanks for looking. |
Awesome. Love the quilting.

This piece of bark cloth was made in the 1940's and is a vintage piece of fabric. Barkcloth is a soft, thick, slightly textured fabric, like the bark of a tree. It was origionaly made with the bark of ficus trees but I'm pretty sure this is made from densly woven cotton.
I had to wash the curtain 4 times to get all the nicotine out of the fabric. It was the color of dark coffee the first three times I washed it! It was yuck but I knew I couldn't use the fabric like that. |
Wow!!!
