memory quilt

I made this quilt using material from my mother's clothing and bandanas. For the boarders around the blocks, I used some old linen napkins. She was an artist and always had a pen in her shirt pocket so I put a shirt pocket in the upper corner of the quilt. She died in August at 93. This is the first of 3 quilts I am going to make. It's a smaller size lap quilt. This one goes to my sister but since she is not on this board, it's safe to post.

This is a great idea to memorialize your mother. Wish I had been a quilter when my mother died (1959).

She was quite a character and was always sketching. Any school play she went to the back of the program had lots of doodles of the play and people in the audience as well. As an art teacher she influenced many students by encouraging them to do their "own thing".
thanks for all the comments.
