Attached are two pictures of the quilts I made after Mom passed away.
Debra, Ontario Canada I made this wall quilt for my brother John using photos printed to fabric and pieces of Mom's clothes. John is in level 4 care, and isn't allowed a lap quilt. What a lovely way to remember your Mum,so very special. Did you make the 5 quilts for your siblings. I made a memorial quilt for my grandmother when she passed away and it bought me some measure of peace. I hope making those quilts for your Mum did the same for you.

Thank you both. They were very well received by my sister and brothers. I even kept on for myself. LOL They only way I could do them, was to do them all at once. It actually went faster then I expected once I got started. When I am feeling down, I just curl up under mine until I feel better.

Aww that's wonderful Debra. I feel the same way every time I use my mom's old machine. I remember her making my clothes on that machine, and now I make memories with my quilts on it.
I did make one quilt for a sister using a piece or two of my mom and dad's clothing. It means the world to her. |
Those are wonderful. I can see how much comfort and memories they hold. Very special.

Isn't it amazing how much our parents mean to us? I mean, growing up we take them for granted (normal), and even more normal, can't wait to get out of the house. But when I don't see them, I miss them.
I hope I can get around to doing that before they're gone and can appreciate what it means to me and them. (If any of that made sense!) I also hope mine will be half as nice as yours! |

Hey we are not that far apart now. We are in Flint at our son's but will go to FL soon now. I just loved your quilt and would like to know what method of photo transfer you used? I have heard of several but most call for all those extra supplies you have to order to do it and that is not good for just one quilt.

I purchased packages of fabric that I could put through my printer. There were 3 pages in each package, and it was a bit expensive, but it worked well for me. I printed from my Canon inkjet printer directly onto the fabric, and then heat set it. The next day, I peeled off the paper backing, and rinsed them in cold water. Pressed again and sew them into the blocks. Debra |

Your quilts are beautiful. I have often thought ---I wished I had done that when they were still here, but now I think I'll make one.
I know what you mean when you say how it helps to wrap up in the quilt now. I do that with the quilt my Mom had on her bed and when I'm feeling down or sick I go and get that quilt to wrap up in. Thanks for sharing-- |

After loosing my Mom 2002 I grieved more than I expected or it may have been the beginning of menopause I was too stupid to realize! Anyway as therapy I finally finished a quilt I started several years before added borders to make it fit a real bed. The comfort therapy was I decided to try the pictures I had been studying in articles to make a memory quilt-genealogy is my main hobby.
I deceided to "applique" the pictures framed with frame not sewn flat to seem like a real frame. I was afraid the pictures might not stand up to time and use and I did not want to ruin the quilt if they didn't. I tried the printable fabric sheets you iron on and the printable sheet transfers to iron on cloth. I definitely preferred the iron on transfers (June Tailor brand?). I have carried this quilt every time I traveled, it is my bedspread and has been washed several times in the washer-gently. The pictures have continued to be just as nice as when I completed it. I will try to take a picture of it and post it. It is so big I haven't figured out how to photograph showing all of it's features. But back to the point it was very healing and comforting to me and the pictures have done well with washings and use. |

What beautiful quilts. But more so is how beautiful your Mother was. What treasures you each now have. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Mothers can never be replaced. What memories we have to carry us on.

Beautiful work! I love your caring sentimental nature, and connection with your mother & siblings. Many people don't ever have the relationships you obviously do; count yourself lucky. Hopefully the grandchildren will inherit your comfort quilts & appreciate them as well. What nice heirlooms to have.
