I have recently set up my MIL's sewing machine, cleaned her up, oiled her and she sews just great. Found the my 1/4 foot works on her so she will be great as a back up machine. I remember my MIL sewing on that machine and all the great clothes she made for my daughter. Makes me feel close to her to use her machine and remember good times with her.

oh! that cabinet is divine! I deeply loved my mom-in-law too. Wouldn't your mil be so happy to know her machine is in your home? :-)

Lucky you!

Looks great! I'd definately use her on a project.

I've found I can't use two different machines for sewing the same project. Don't ask me why! We all know a 1/4" seam *should be* a 1/4" seam on all machines...but it ain't.

Enjoy!

Beautiful machine and beautiful memories. Happy Quilting!

I am in complete agreement. I tried the 2 machine thing thinking that using one of the machines in the classroom would alleviate my hauling my own. WRONG! Found out the painful way that 1/4" on one machine is not the same 1/4" on another. It's one of those mysteries in life we just have to accept.

That is a pretty machine, but the cabinet just makes it beautiful. I am sure the memories are the best part. I often wish my mom hadn't traded in the Singer I learned to sew on, it would be so nice to have that now that she is gone.

But she will be using the same quarter inch foot, so it should be easier. I think the trouble starts if you rely on the grooves on the needleplate. I love the cabinet too.

What a wonderful backup machine, I love the cabinet. Congratulations.

True, very true. But I use different machines for different parts of the assembly. I have one machine set up with the walking foot and use it for quilting, attaching binding, etc. And another machine with the 1/4" foot. All my machines I use on a regular basis are Vikings and the feet are interchangeable so I don't have that problem. If I get out a vintage to make something then I only use that machine for the entire project. Something in my brain about mixing vintage and new....how strange.
