My Quilt Guild ran a challenge this year, encouraging all the members to make a mini-quilt and enter it in the homecraft division of our county fair. The rules were that a mini-quilt "can be anything". Since I'm a new quilter, I decided to use this little project to start to learn to hand-quilt. My mini-quilt is a single D9P block made from 9 five-inch charm squares. The first photo shows the quilt and the second is an attempt at a closeup of the hand quilting. I did the quilting entirely freehand, just putting in whatever struck me in each section of the D9P.
The third picture is the completed blocks and layout for the throw-sized quilt I'm making for my sister as a wedding present. I hope to finish assembling the top today. Jan |
These all make me smile. They are so happy looking. I love the circles they are using in the newer patterns. I hope to get to one soon for my family room this winter.
I like the mini one you did. Very abstract, but whimsical! |
Nice work! I love your hand quilting on the mini!

Those mini quilts look like so much fun to do. Your hand quilting is impressive!! I still haven't tried that yet. Anyway, great job!

Really nice job.

Your mini quilt is awesome!!! Love the handquilting on it!!! Your wip is beautiful, can't wait to see more of it :D :D :D

Love the mini quilt - your hand quilting is great - I do a lot free hand myself too! And I love the blocks in your WIP.

Cute mini with great hand Quilting. What a great idea for practicing!
Your larger quilt looks to be a fun one also! Great work! |
Love the mini and the WIP!
|
Wonderful job on both. Your hand quilting is really, really good!

Love the mini-quilt fabrics. Are they from a Moda collection or some other collection. They seem so well coordinated. If they are from a collection I would like to know which one. This is a very lovely mini-quilt.
|
Good job on both, and your hand quilting is great!!
|
Love them both, keep making more. Well done.

Thanks! Jan |
Have you posted a pic of the D9P? I would love to see it. I think the fabrics are great and when you buy a collection everything matches and makes your friends and family think you are great at picking out coordinating fabrics. I could never do that on my own. It's nice to have a secret!

Very good job with the quilting! Really nice fabric too!
|
I love the fabric you used for you mini-quilt. I have loved that line for awhile and would love to find a pattern to use it. Great Job!
|
Really like the WIP; nice soft colors in the other, too.
