Minnesota Quilt

3 Attachment(s)
Here's my first Minnesota fabric quilt (kit from 2012). Bought this kit last year while up north. Pattern is "Fiddle Sticks" purchased from Front Porch Quilts in Walker MN. Visit them if you get the chance. Great little shop! I have lots to improve on but am encouraged with progress on some techniques. This turned out very close to what the finished size is supposed to be (ha ha). My 1/4" seam is not always fool proof but is getting better. I tried fmq (made the mistake of starting with wax paper instead of freezer paper) and that lesson I'll always remember. Trust me, freezer paper works a lot better than wax paper! How do you fmq on busy fabric and know where your at? Would love to free lance without following a traced line on freezer paper but tend to get lost along the way. Hope I get better at it soon.

Awwwww....your quilt made this Minnesota girl homesick! I grew up near the Twin Cities and left home in the 80's. I smiled when as I read "while up north"...the summers we had "up north"!! Great job and a great treasure!!!!!!!!

Very pretty. I agree sometimes, especially at night, it is hard to see where to go on busy quilt fabrics. Great job.

To see where you are quilting on a busy fabric, put some tissue paper over the quilt and quilt on it. It tears off easily when you are done.

Great job on the quilt, Mavis! I thought last year's fabric was really terrific. I like the quilting done in the border, too.

Saw this new Minnesota fabric in a Fons and Porter ad. It reminded me of your quilt.

Silvia, this is this year's fabric for the state-wide shop hop in Aug. It won't be available until the first day of the hop. Nearly all of the shops in the state participates in the 2 week event. There are actually some people who finish the whole state! I'm not one of them.
