QuiltyLisa wants to make covers for her kitchen appliances, and I told her I would post a picture of a cover I made YEARS (18?) ago for my mixer. No pattern - 3 layers, but not quilted - looks like a giant tea cozy. I laid the mixer on its side on newspaper and drew around it with a Sharpie. Then I winged it. I added scraps for a blouse, skirt and apron. The arms are stuffed and their tops are sewn into the seam between the top of the blouse and the upper part of the cozy. The head is totally separate - attaches with 2 big snaps, so it can be removed when the cozy is laundered. I tapered the top a bit, added a casing and drawstring. Pulled the string tight, tucked it inside. The red and blue have faded a BIT in 18 years!

That is the cutest thing...
I may have to try this for all my appliances.

Isn't that cute. And talented you made your own pattern. No way I can do that. Great job.

I finally figured out how to get a new picture in my Avatar. This is from April - and my hair has grown another inch at least, so I still want DH to take a new picture. This one's bad quality is because a friend Emailed it to me. I look a little like a grinning skull, but it looks more like me than the old Avatar did :lol:

Quiltylisa - I'm glad you're gonna try out my 'pattern'- making idea :wink:

Thank you all for your kind comments - KO24, Sulabug, Terri, Quilter1962, Ninnie, Sewjoyce, nana2, Bevanger, amma, littlehud :-)

Darlene - if I were to do a tutorial, I would have to go back 18 years and start over! But thanks for the flattering suggestion :D

Loretta - thanks for suggesting that I could sell this as a pattern - I wonder how many people would be abot to see the pattern through the newspaper print? :roll:

She looks great on the counter. You could use scraps from old clothes to personalize the cozy. How about one for each appliance dressed as each family member?

My counter is way to cluttered with the "extra" gadgets we use. It would be interesting to walk in the kitchen and see the family waiting.

that is so cute, Joanne. I have a mixer cover, but my mixer is kind of rectangular/box shaped, so not cute like yours. :D

reneebobby 06-10-2009 07:44 AM

Mine's rectangular, too. You're seeing her from one end. Thanks for the compliment :D

If you don't want it anymore, I'll be glad to take it off of your hands. My mixer is a 20-yr. old Kitchen Aid. Will it fit? {{{{{{only kidding}}}}}}
What a creative idea. I just hate seeing all those appliances on my counter tops. I could make the whole family for the food processor, the toaster, etc. etc. You are so clever.
