Modern Looking Churn Dash

2 Attachment(s)
My ongoing dilemma is to make my older fabric look modern. Now I know this is not necessary with every quilt, but my DH asked me to make a baby quilt for one of his clients. They are a young couple, and while I knew they did not lean towards the current all encompassing trend of grey, I knew I wanted something modern-ish. My starting point was the backing fabric. It is an Alexander Henry print from the 90's. I pulled colors from my stash that matched. The pattern I had seen made in civil war prints and it looked modern so I figured it would work for my fabric too. I am happy to say they loved the quilt. I think it is more "juvenile" than baby, but that way they should get more use out of it. Thanks for looking :)

Super! I've never seen such a nice modern version of the churn dash.

Cute fabric and great quilt!

Great job...I've always like this block. Using the solid look fabrics updates this classic. I like how you reversed your lights and darks in a couple of the blocks. It takes the predictability out of the quilt and makes one go "AH!".

I did not even recognize it as churn dash at first.

Very modern, masculine, and grown-up looking.

I didn't recognize this as a churn dash pattern, but I love what you made and the fabrics you used!
