"Mom can you make this?" Christmas advent pillow and quilt

2 Attachment(s)
My newlywed daughter saw an advent pillow at some store in October and I got the famous "Mom can you make this for me?" .....was so tempted to just buy her the $25ish pillow. Instead I monogrammed the numbers and trimmed it in a satin braid. I backed it in a Christmas plaid, since apparently plaid is her theme. And I stuffed it with scrap fluffy batting I somehow inherited from my sweet MotherInLaw.

Then I got a wild hair to whip up a quilt panel I purchased last year for said daughter's new boyfriend from https://patternjam.com/i/656034453. I have established a rule when my children dated...boyfriends or girlfriends do NOT get quilts. He is my (now) SonInLaw. :D I had dreams of quilting each deer head differently, in my rush to finish I opted for a simple diagonal crosshatch with my trustee walking foot. The newlyweds were thrilled with both. Yeah mom! :D

Very nicely done!

Way to go! Love the deer head quilt. The plaid just seems to make it work. I too have that no boyfriend/girlfriend rule. Nieces and nephews are always bringing them around and they are oh so serious at the time.

Good gifts. The stag heads are a perfect guy quilt. Love the plaids!

redstilettos 12-21-2016 05:34 AM

Love the plaids! My hubby would love this quilt.

I, too, have kids with the "My Mom can Make That!" gene. I try to look at it like a compliment! :)

Oh my gosh.....LOVE IT!!

Great gifts of love. They will love them. Yes, my rule was no quilt until they are engaged. Future son-in-law has yet to receive one as they don't have a date set LOL and I was booked with quilts I had to get done for Christmas.

Great job, beautiful !
I agree with Red Stilettos---could not begin to count the times our daughters have ask that question ! Now the grans have been bitten by same bug-ha ! If I do things, they are always greatly appreciated. Made grandson a wall hanging of ABC panel but he told his Mom he wanted to use it as a quilt first---love those kids !

Love the deer head quilt! I make all of my nieces/nephews and sons a special "serenity prayer" quilt when they get married. It's from a panel I found in Wal-Mart over 10 years ago and bought the entire bolt! (One panel was on sale for $1). My son's wife asked if I would make one for her best friend when she got married! My son-her hubby said No! Mom only makes the for family members not just anyone! I guess he set that rule! Love your rule!

very nice job!!

Nice job on your projects! My kids used to volunteer me for all sorts of things - I was room mom and team mom for 8 years (for both kids!) Now my grands tell their teachers -- just met a teacher for the first time a week ago -- she said"so you're the one who sews". Wonder what I will end up making this time. Isn't it great they have so much confidence in us!

Great gifts and truly a compliment when a close one asks you for a favor like that. And as for your rule, I love it. I apparently felt more affection for a loved one's girlfriend than he did this fall when he made some changes in his life, so to speak. I have a new rule to try to keep a little distance! Ha, ha. Your rule is a good, solid one.

Mornigstar 12-21-2016 05:32 PM

Both nice. Like the rule. My daughter & gd are now saying like me " I can make that ". and they do.

jamsbuying 12-22-2016 09:16 AM

Love them both! Good job!!

caspharm 12-22-2016 03:18 PM

Greenheron 12-26-2016 08:35 AM

I love when they ask--then I have hope they will actually like what they get, LOL.

twinkie 02-19-2017 01:38 AM
