Moon Dance is quilted!!!

I made this quilt top last fall. I fell in love with the pattern when I saw it on display at a LQS in different colors than on the pattern. I usually don't buy specialty rulers, but I had to have this one. I also rarely buy a kit. I bought the pattern and ruler and went home and started looking in my stash. I found most of the colors that but had to buy a few more to get the colors to flow together. I posted a picture here and one nice lady suggested I add a border using the background fabric. I had enough to do so, and I really like it. The binding is scrappy...leftovers from the blocks. I am happy with how it turned out. The name of the pattern is Moon Dance by Sew Kind of
Wonderful. Thanks for looking a second time. Also, thanks to my DH for holding the quilt for me. He says his 'wing span' isn't quite wide enough but he did pretty good!

Mary, what a great quilt. You did a wonderful job choosing fabrics/colors. I may have to put this on my to-do list.

I didn't see it the first time around...wow, it's awesome! Love the colors and style, really cool.

What great modern quilt! You did a fantastic job piecing all those circles too, and the overall effect and blending of the colors is perfect.

Really nice. You did a great job with your colors.

Love your quilt and the fabric colors you chose. I also like to try to use up the scraps also and have used them for the binding in the past. Nice job! Were the specialty rulers the Drunkard's Path rulers? I've had mine for years still in the package when I found them a couple weeks ago and I decided it was time to try them out or get rid of them. I made 2 oversized lapquilt from them. Curves were out of my comfort zone so I decided I had to try them. I found using Elmer's Glue on the ends and snipping along the curves mad it easier to stitch the 2 sections together. Elmer's Glue washes out and I only put just a tiny little line on the fabric and then heat set it with the iron.

That is a very lovely quilt and beautiful choice of colour and value.

I have those rulers and just have never gotten around to using them....hmmmm....

Gorgeous! I'm adding this pattern to my ever-growing want-to-make-it list! (But curved piecing still scares me.)

The ruler is a QRC mini ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful. The have many patterns using this ruler. It comes with a free pattern for a table runner. I made the table runner first. I was able to figure out the rule and it made Moon Dance easy.

Don't let curves scare you. The ruler comes with a table runner pattern. Make it first and then the quilt won't be so hard. Just take your time. I admit, I pinned my blocks together before I stitched them. I was a dressmaker long before I was a quilter so I pin everything. I look at each quilt as a learning experience and this one taught me a lot about colors and curves.

I bought the pattern and the ruler yesterday. Of course I have a different pattern with ruler from Sew Kind of Wonderful that's been sitting in a drawer for several years. I really want to make both quilts, but I'm afraid they may wind up keeping each other company in that drawer. I hope they like each other.

Absolutely beautiful!! You did a wonderful job.

Mary, your quilt is beautiful! I’ve been obsessed with all of the Drunkard’s Path designs out there. I just started seeing them and love it. My next project is definitely going to be using this block. Any suggestions or pointers? I’m looking for any tips I can get.

Your quilt is wonderful. I’m looking for a pattern for my step-daughter. This may be it.

The main tip is taking your time. The ruler comes with a table runner pattern. I would recommend making it first. It gives you the chance to make friends with the ruler before you start a huge project. Also, I pin the curves and then stitch them. I was a dressmaker long before I was a quilter, so pinning is an important part of my sewing. As for the colors, It calls for 5 different shade of each color. I used blue, green and purple. They are all batik, so the colors flowed well together. I am not sure about making it scrappy. This quilt is a planned design so using colors that flow is important. I did remake a couple blocks when I put it together, just to get the right colors in that particular spot. The pattern is well written and easy to understand. I would love to see your finished quilt!! If I can answer any questions along the way, PM me.
