AZ/Utah Dreamin' is approximately 10 x 18; needle-turned appliqued and hand quilted. Our oldest son took one of his photos of Monument Valley and another of Antelope Canyon and overlayed parts of each using Photoshop. He had the results framed for me as a Christmas Present. This was his gift Christmas 2008.

August 2009 Quilting Arts Magazine had a Frances Holliday Alford (check out her website if you get a chance) tutorial on Gelatin Printing. So I got the things I needed, followed the tutorial, and this is one of the art pieces I did. Fun, fun, fun. The colors aren't exact in photo one, but the close up was taken with my good camera and colors are almost exactly like the quilt. I was born in Michigan and went through high school in Alexandria and Arlington, VA, so here in AZ I really miss seeing the trees wearing their fall colors.

The last two on this posting are in the Baltimore Album style and were done for my husband Sam who is very active in his Masonic Lodge and in Scottish Rite. Both are my own designs, both were needle-turned appliqued, and hand quilted. The second block was made for him in honor of his receiving the Knight Commander Court of Honor designation in 2009.

Love your quilts!!! The landscape one and the fall leaves really caught my eye. Did you make the leaves, quilted/embroidered them and then appliqued them on your background. It is very creative and unique. You are very talented and kind for sharing your work.

Diane - Once I had my fabric gelatin monoprinted, I transferred the leaf pattern onto the fabric.

Next step was to sandwich it with batting and a backing and do the satin stitch around the outside and FMQ for the veins.

Each of the six plates (separate pieces) of the quilt was done the same way. When you do your printing all sorts of interesting patterns and interesting shapes to each plate appears. You work with those as you satin stitch and FMQ. Once you are happy with the FMQ, cut out each plate close to the satin stitching, and go over any area where you might have cut too closely.

To attach each plate you put them in to a pleasing arrangement and satin stitch tack them them in place making sure that they are secure. The leaves were added last.

To hang this odd 19" x 20" "leaf" shape I made tabs and satin stitched them onto the back where they wouldn't show through on the front.

This technique was in the August 2009 Quilting Arts Magazine and was so much fun to do.

I am working on a some plates that I am making into an underwater-type design. Have found tiny shells, charms, and beads and plan doing some embellishing. Will see how that goes.
