Wow! You guys are a really busy group here! I am almost speechless! Okay I said almost.

This pink one was my first OBW that I did by myself, made for a new grand daughter. She has just turned 1 so it's been a while now. I am showing a pic of the fabric I used too. This one is using the octogons. I like the effect much better.

The purple one was my first big quilt, I bought it as blocks on ebay for a wedding gift for my son & daughter in law. I hand quilted it and it took almost a year to get it done!

Well, my eyes aren't that bad and I can see em'. I love them all, especially the purple one...a year...now thats an investment!

I love these quilts! Yours have very pretty fabrics. I would never have guessed there were canisters on the second one.

I made a wedding gift quilt with the same fabric in the top quilt- the lilac one. That fabric is gorgeous!

What does "OBW" stand for? The quilts are very pretty.

My assumption would be "One Block Wonder's" Which is the name of the style of the quilt.

Those are all so pretty!

Hi Kirsten - this method is described in a book called One Block Wonders by Maxine Rosenthal - at least that's where i got it from. Don't know about Jenell though - sorry to but in Jenell but you know me!

I love the pink one! My daughter would go crazy for one like that. I had my nose pressed to the screen peering at it! How do you quilt them BTW? The pansy one I did FMG stippling all over it. Was the first one I'd done on the machine - I usually hand quilt but it didn't seem worth the effort. I thought the quilting wouldn't/didn't need to really show and the FMQ just gives it some texture. Love to know what you think, Jenell! :D

Very pretty

Kathryn, I had a meander done on the blue one, with echo quilting around the border flowers. It seemed the simplist thing to do. I wanted to try stitch in the ditch because it really is just diagonal rows after all, but my quilter talked me out of it.

The pink one is quilted in about a 6" rose pattern. I trimmed it in a creamy crocheted lace and it really has a victorian feel to it. Not what I had in mind but I loved the end result. I am so tempted to make this one again, I wish I could find this fabric in soft purple!

They both are so pretty! The purple one has my heart.

Yes, I think meander is the way to go. SITD round the blocks would outline the hexs and you really want them to disapear. Any chance of a bigger photo of the rosie one? I'd love to see that quilting pattern and no matter how close to the screen I get my nose, I just can't! :D I love the idea of the lace trimming!

Hi winky, it stands for one block wonder - it's a quilt made from one block, either a hexagon made of 6 triangles or an octogan of 8 triangles, with corner filling squares made of 4 further triangles. The triangles are cut from identical strips of aligned fabric so each is exactly the same - also called stack n whack. The wonder comes from the beautiful effects that can be achieved using just one block and one fabric - as shown here by Jenell! :D

mimee4 06-13-2009 02:45 PM

Dramatic and beautiful.

gaigai 06-13-2009 02:54 PM

Jennell your quilts are gorgeous. I am dying to make an OBW with my lilac fabric, but now I've seen your pink one, I want one of those, too! Great jobs!
