Morning Star Quilt
1 Attachment(s)
A friend hosted a Metis Quilter who was teaching the Morning Star Blanket. Yes, it is a quilt, but in her First Nation tradition it is called a blanket. Two days of bias and Y-seams, but I have a lovely top. It will be a gift for a friend who turns 50 in April and loves pink. I probably will add one more set of borders as it is only about 50 inches square now.
I have no idea why it is posting sideways, but you can see the whole quilt. I did not have quite enough of the b[ink for the border, so used cornerstones for the first time. I was happy that the centre star is quite flat and many of my points look ok. |
very nice, I don't think I ever will want to do Y seam piecing so I am impressed with yours.

Sure, looks good. BrendaK

Great Work!!! I don't have the patients to do Y seams, or else I'm too slow to catch on.

...for sharing your quilt ..it's wonderful ...i was unfamiliar with the term metis quilter, tho as a part cherokee, i have always had strong interest in native american studies. i love the canadian manor of saying "first nation" ...so much more correctly describes my forefathers and others. and now i love the canadian way of saying metis ..instead of half breed, or 'breed' as my grfather was referred to. so thank you for a lovely few hours researching 'metis'. ...and i have always admired and loved looking at the star quilts of the dakota sioux & am familiar with their use of the term 'blanket' for their fabulous creations. |
lovely quilt

Beautiful star.

I'm with you love to sew. Y-seams scare me.

Wow, your colors are amazing. Beautiful quilt.
|
great job--that is one I have always wanted to make but I'm intimidated by all those Y seams.
|
Beautiful Center! I love the Morningstar name. It will be a treasure!
|
You've done lovely work on this quilt. Once you've learned a new technique from a good teacher, it isn't scary anymore.
