That is such a touching story! I am so proud for you both! It is those moments that make it all worthwhile! Every time you look at that quilt, you will remember how special it really is! Your daughter is a beauty and a blessing!

What a wonderful thing!! The granddaughter of a dear friend, and my grandson (by marriage) are both autistic. Alexandra lives in Washington State so I don't get to interact with her, and Bradley is 800 miles away but their Mama's make sure I get pictures and stories to keep up to date on them. I'm looking for just THE most perfect material for Bradley's quilt. I had thought of using the Autistic Line of fabrics but he leans more to Super Heroes!!

zzmom 09-10-2013 04:48 AM

Awesome quilt and awesome daughter with a beautiful mind! As many have said, they are both beaming!

that is a very special quilt. So happy for you and your daughter.

svenskaflicka1 09-10-2013 05:56 AM

that is, indeed, one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen. (i have three grandsons, all of whom are autism spectrum/learning disabled. and when they find something that is common ground, and join in, it's like hearing music.) i hope melissa stays with the quilting, and can begin to make it her own. you may have found a "partner in crime"!

cpcarolyn 09-10-2013 05:57 AM

Beautiful daughter, wonderful quilt. I am so happy for you.

sheilar 09-10-2013 06:04 AM

The making of great memories:)

callen 09-10-2013 06:06 AM

What a great & humble way to start my day. This post was very touching I thank you for that. We all take so much for granted & you made us realize how lucky many of us are & have to be reminded that sometimes the best things in life are some of the simplest things in life. Wonderful story & a lovely quilt. Your daughter is absolutely "beaming".

JANICE E. 09-10-2013 06:25 AM

What a wonderful memory and I hope many more to come. And The smile on Melissa face says it all. Beautiful quilt. Please let Melissa know how proud we are of her for helping you do a great job.

EmiliasNana 09-10-2013 06:26 AM

Wonderful story. Thanks for sharing. It truly is a special quilt with a special daughter, as all daughters are. You may have started a spark of interest in a future quilter. What fun that would be, working side by side.

michelleoc 09-10-2013 06:30 AM

What a wonderful story!! That is truly an accomplishment for Melissa. Your quilt is beautiful, and she couldn't look any more proud.

Awesome quilt and beautiful daughter. She has been watching you all this time and decided this was the one she was going to help with.

MargeD 09-10-2013 06:56 AM

What a wonderful story. It's a beautiful quilt, your daughter is beautiful and you may have found a new quilting partner/assistant.

llong0233 09-10-2013 07:09 AM

Oh my gosh, what a thrill for you. How did you stop from grabbing her and giving her a huge hug? I'm sure that would have broken the spell, magic or whatever it was helping her along, but it would have been a great temptation! So happy for you and her.

arline423 09-10-2013 07:09 AM

I have a 25 year old autistic nephew - I understand your exuberance. You now have a quilting buddy forever. Be prepared to find her own creativity emerging. I am SO happy for you.

WisWis 09-10-2013 07:11 AM
