Thought I would share some things I have made with selvages.
I finally looked up selvages on google...Wikipedia has this among other things to say about Selvage..."The terms selvage and selvedge are a corruption of "self-edge", ".........I didn't know that, did you? KC Chiefs for DIL, KC, Royals for GD left over strips from bargello for son another made from left over strips from tan & blue Navajo quilt, this one is for me strings and selvages for sister in her favorite colors 9-patch for my grandson's girl friend |

Those are so cool!!! And my mouse pad has seen better days.....
I didn't think you could use a quilted mousepad...but they work ok.
You did great!! Love the artistic one for your sister! Love them all really!! :D :D
Very nice!
I love them! I would never have thought of making a mouse pad. What a great little gift.
Cool! My dh would love the KC ones...he's from KC Kansas.
oh those are cute.
now if we could only get Eleanor Burns of Quilt in a Day to say selvege when talking about the edge of fabric she cuts off and not SALVAGE as in finding gold in a shipwreck. he,he. |
Very cute. Great idea.

Again... These are so unique, you have some pretty good ideas there.
I thought I was thrifty but you are over the moon. I love it and am so impressed and inspired. Thanks.
What a fabulous idea for making mouse pads.
What a great idea for a mouse pad. Does your mouse get caught on the seams at all or does it seem to slide smoothly? I could use a fun mousepad. Mine is just boring gray with "Radio Shack" printed on it.
Those are adorable. Glad my little packet proved helpful!
My mouse moves very smoothly over it. Mine is an optical mouse, so it might move better that one of the ones with the ball. After I finished the pad, I spray starched and iron it pretty flat.

I really wasing trying to be thrifty...I just like to make little things and wanted to try the selvages in some projects. It didn't take all that long to make these...spent more time getting up and ironing that sewing.

those are neat. thank you for sharing. Penny
wow, love it! 8-)
I was grown before I knew it was selvege and not salvage. And why? Doesn't the 'selvege' edge 'salvage' the fabric from ripping?
Love the mouse pads BTW. |
Cool. I never would have thought of making mouse pads. Great idea.
Does it need a firm filler or will craft batt or warm and natural work by itself?
I constructed these on scrap muslin and then used one layer of warm and natural and a backing fabric, which I brought to the front for a binding on some of them.
After they were complete I spray starched and ironed. One I made for my husband wasn't starched and it works ok for his laptop. when he is finished with his computer and shuts down. He sits the pad and mouse on the keyboard.

I was watching a video of Eleanor Burns last night and heard her say salvage several times. I probably wouldn't have noticed except for the comment here. I too, forgive her. I've probably said it once or twice myself.
I would not have though that a quilted mouse pad would work what a cute idea for our quilter friends... I must try..
As she throws a quilt on the desk under the mouse to try it ;) before making one.
