MSQC house quilt - monogram - janome 6600

My daughter is moving in mid-June. When I saw the MSQC tutorial called "Won't You Be My Neighbor" I just knew I had to make it for her family. When they first married 11 years ago my son-in-law was in the Marine Corps. They have moved 8 times in that 11 years and he is now a civilian.

I'd like to monogram dates, places, etc on the roofs of these house blocks. I can't figure out how to add a space to the Janome monograms. Anyone know?

Here's the tutorial:

This is how my attempts are turning out so far. Acceptable, but not as good as I'd like....

Wow - that was fast - I had posted this question to the yahoo group and already have an answer - the largest space is 99, other spaces are 97 and 98. That's even on the flip card for the machine, but I hadn't deciphered the code. The 99 is next to a square and I was supposed to know that square was a space - now I do!

Here's the new, improved anniversary date roof. I had stitched a tail on the period to make a comma.

How to add a space - I don't have a Janome but a Viking and for the life of me could not figure out how to add a space - on the alphabet wheel or number wheel there should be a shape that looks like this [ ( but lying down) - keep looking for it or something like this symbol. By the way you hexies are beautiful.

Very nice idea. From what I can see of your quilt, it is wonderful. Any chance we could get a whole quilt picture of your quilt? Thanks for the tutorial.

Here's a picture of part of it. I'm not real pleased with the stark contrast between the houses and the background. Do you think if I quilted the white spackes with a khaki thread that would help? I'm getting the batting that doesn't have to be quilted very closely and my not quilt in the houses at all. Dream-something batting?

(the top two house rows are attached - the bottom one isn't)

Lovely quilt! How is it coming along? What did you decide on the background?
