MSQS North Star

Almost a year ago, I was the grand winner at my Strip Poker table at our retreat (no no no! everyone kept their clothes on. It is the dice game and the buy-in was 5 batik jelly roll strips) I won 85 strips!! Well, retreat is rolling around again and I need to have my strips made into 'something'. When I saw the North Star pattern, I fell in love. That quickly turned to 'like' as I started assembling the blocks, and then to 'what was I thinking' as I tried to sew the blocks together according to the pattern. With my fabric, the layout caused my eyes to hurt. Trying to match points caused palpitations.
I finally decided to change the layout and make it more organized and traditional. I also decided to add a very (1/2 inch) narrow sashing between each block. That probably saved my sanity. It took me 3 afternoons to assemble the top from the blocks. I am exhausted but it is done!! Thanks for looking. |
Lovely original top!

I really like what you did. It is beautiful!
Whatever you did, it worked beautifully! Love it! (also loved your version of making it! Lol!)
Whatever changes you made look great! nice job
Very nice! I need to look up that pattern now.
I like your version better! It's a wonderful quilt.
great pattern and well done
I really like your quilt. I found the original pattern and see why you wanted to do. I would consider making it too but I need to start on a quilt for the first great grand child before I do this one.
All your headaches and frustrations turned out to be definitely worth it! It's gorgeous. Congratulations on a wonderful accomplishment.

Beautifully done!
Beautiful quilt! Kudos to preserve and get it done, it was so worth it!
Love your version. I started one using batiks, got one block made and decided it was not fun to make, so somewhere in the stash is a lonely block, never to be done again. But yours is great, prefer your version from the original.
Wow! That is impressive. You did a smart thing to make the changes so that the quilt really became your own.
Lovely! Separating the blocks makes such a huge difference. You are so right about it being to busy for the eyes in the original layout. Great job. I am sure it will be a hit at your next retreat. I love your idea of strip poker.
What a delightful quilt! You will surely be a star when you show those poker players what you did with your winnings. Fun!
I like the colors in this, I like the pattern, great job!
Turned out really awesome; loving it.
What a beautiful quilt it turned out to be. The gals will and Ah over it at your poker game.

You quilt is very pretty!
That's beautiful!!! So happy for you on your win, too!
Beautifully done!! I purchased the pattern from MSQC about a year ago, have blue fabric collected, but have not yet started on it. Yours turned out so wonderful - makes me want to get busy!
Wow this is a great design. Love it.
Love your quilt. I started one about 6 months ago. I've only completed one block. It's not as much fun as I thought it would be.
Absolutely love it! I know what you mean about how you think a pattern is going to happen but it doesn’t! Ugh, I have 3 quilts like that.
Love your quilt and the pretty batiks!
