I was so inspired by the mug rugs. Someone posted photos of her mugs and rugs matching and for the life of me I cannot find that post to credit her. I tried to do the design in embroidery, by digitizing the design in my software, and then embroidering it on the fabric before making the rug. This is my first mug AND my first time free motion quilting. I rolled the backing around to the front to give it a look of binding. Not too bad for a first effort. Will make nice gifts at Christmas for co-workers. I bought seven cups today at Good Will. This is number one. I do hope I will be able to stick with this project so that I can get all seven done. I am not known for my sticktoitiveness!!!

Maggie you did a great job matching the pictures and also making the mug rug.
Nice job on your first machine quilting! Here is a tutorial I followed to learn to do mitered corners when bringing the backing to the front for a binding. It explains it so well and has great pictures. http://www.whatididatschooltoday.com...ory_a_qui.html |
PamH thank you for the link to the tutorial I know my corners did not turn out quite right, but all four corners were pretty much the same. I will study up on that and number two should look better. Thank you

I was in a thrift shop yesterday and saw some cute coffee cups. I thought, "I bet Maggie Sue could make a cute mug rug to go with this!"

Very nice job. Sounds like a great idea to use of Christmas gifts. I was thinking of doing them for teachers gifts too after I completed the easter one and saw how cute the mug and matching mug rug look.
