This is the wallhanging. It can be hung either squared, or on point since the design is in a circle. It's called "Everlasting Love".

Kj05 06-12-2009 07:42 AM

The elephants are amazing! I love the detail. The color combinations of both are awesome. Very nice job!

It's my own design. I went to a "Sew Flakes" class with Kathy Wylie (her website is http://www.kathykwylie.com/ and I went with the idea of somehow incorporating elephants into the circular design. I wanted them all going in the same direction, rather than mirror image, like in most snowflakes. Kathy showed me how to do that, and then I went home and designed the rest of it. The beady eyes went on next, and then I went to the local bead store and found those beads for the tusks. Then I stood back and decided that 3-D ears just had to happen, and the rest is history. Jan

Loretta, that's the first African thing I've done. My two adult children climbed Kilimanjaro together 6 years ago, and so that's why I decided on the quilt. The neat part is that my daughter is marrying a man of East Indian culture, and so the elephants just had to be Indian rather than African elephants. Hopefully I got the shape of the ears right!

gaigai 06-13-2009 01:25 AM

Jan, those are both awesome quilts! You did a superb job. I would love to make one of the circle ones myself!

zyxquilts 06-13-2009 06:37 AM

Those are very cool!! How great that you found those "tusk" beads too. :D
I went back to look at the close up again, and that fabric you used for the elephants really moves all on its own, doesn't it?
They are just going to love & treasure these works of art!!!

Esqmommy 06-13-2009 06:42 AM

what a lovely gift - your DD and SIL (to be) will treasure them forever! I can see those still in your family 100 years from now...unlike the candlesticks, china place settings and other "bridal registry" type gifts. The smile on your face says it all. Great work!

RedGarnet222 06-13-2009 07:55 AM

How thoughtful a gift you have made for your daughter and son in law. I hope they will have your everlasting love that you want for them.

Both of the pieces are very stunning to look at and I know they will be well recieved. Good work Mom!
