I went with my husband to pick up some things out of a house his aunt is selling and there were still a few pieces in there. She asked if there was anything I saw that I wanted as the rest is staying with the house. There was a sewing machine in a cabinet, and I asked if she was selling it. She told me to take it, she wasn't going to use it and not sure what the other people would do with it either. I was doing the happy dance on the inside. Wasn't sure what I got but it didn't matter. When I got home and opened it up, there it was a pretty little Singer 99. I looked it up and she was born on April 26, 1955. We are the same age, how about that. I guess today was my lucky day. :-D

The scratched finish is common...please don't let it bother you...she's still a pretty baby!! :)
To get a more accurate idea of her actual birthdate (no one knows exactly what days particular machines were made), look up the next run of 99s...figure out where your machine's serial number falls within IT'S OWN RUN, and you'll have a better estimate of the month it was actually "born" in! :) Example: My 15-91 was commissioned November 9 of 1945, the next run of 15s was April of 1946... "Anne's" serial number is in about the top 1/3 of that run of numbers...I figure she was actually made in January/February of 1946. Whatcha gonna name her? |
Sweet looking machine. Love my vintage singers. I agree with Angie, the vintage is about all I use now.

I recently got a 1936 99, and just bought a 1928 99 last weekend. They're in very good condition, no rust, decals in good shape, but I have to get one of them reconditioned. The '36 has better decals, so I'll probably get that one done. Glad to hear they're quiet and nice, my SIL has a 66 and she loves it.
