My 10-minute = 1 Hour Block

2 Attachment(s)
I decided to give this pattern a try, since it seemed so very easy after watching a youtube video of how it's done. Well, the test block wasn't all that difficult once I figured out how to do it, so the rest will most likely be 20 minute blocks. lol I have to say I'm impressed with how big...or small...the blocks can be, since all of the five squares should be the same size. It's too simple math! I used 9", since that's the largest scrap I had in the fabrics I used. THEN I went to Joann's to see if I could match the fabric and got lucky, but since none of it happens to be on sale this weekend, I'll go back as soon as they put these on sale or I have a coupon to make it a better deal. ;)

BTW, I'm not sure, but I think the reason so many photos are coming out as links to larger ones is that some are using the "attachment" link instead of "insert image" link when uploading images for their new thread.

Nice colors, but then Blues are my favorite . I haven't tried this block yet. Thanks for sharing.

AZ Jane 05-28-2012 03:49 PM

Try the block using a smaller middle block!!

quiltinggirl 05-28-2012 03:53 PM

Great job!

Love your colors. I am doing this pattern with batiks, using the light colors in the center and med/dark for the corners;
I got 3 rows put together at a retreat the last of April and I am using 5 inch squares. The reason I am using 5" squares,
is that I am doing another quilt out of batiks that is called On Point, with a black batik sashing. This way I can use moreof my batiks in different quilts instead of cutting a 10 inch square out of a FQ and wasteing fabric. If there is some left, then I cut strings for my spiderweb quilt. I got 3 blocks done of the string spiderweb at retreat. I only
got one row of my guild quilt put together but I hope to have all 4 rows done before our June meeting. If other
things don't keep me from sewing. I will be teaching this 10 minute block at our summer one day retreat in July
and wanted to get a little more done on it so they can see what a row or two would look like using their fabrics.
Are you going to hand sew the center square to look like the cathedral window? I am thinking of doing that; and
putting a design in the center when I machine quilt it and doing meandering on the rest of it?? I laid out the 3
rows and I think I want to add 3 more blocks to it before I put borders on; so it will be 9 blocks across and 12/14
blocks long. I don't like square quilts. I looked at your picture again, I see you machine pieced the cathedral
window look, so disregard my question...lol

to make a picture bigger just click on it, at less that what my computer will let me do. And I know what yoor are talking about, I am blind, so much so my nose gets in the way. Oh by the way, I just love this sight. I can not wait to get coffee made and see what the quilting board has on. And I truly love all of the pictures. Just keep on QUILTING world.

The to you all,

Carol

where is the pattern

Deb watkins 05-28-2012 04:28 PM

This is a real fun block to do. You can enhance it even more by turning down the sides and inserting a smaller square , folding down the sides and which makes it a faux cathedral window.

coopah 05-28-2012 04:51 PM

Helen S, you can go online and print out a coupon...you don't have to wait until the weekend to by your fabric.

Tweety2911 05-28-2012 04:54 PM

Very pretty choice of colors on your lovely block!

Latrinka 05-28-2012 04:59 PM

Beautiful! I made 12 of these blocks in all christmas fabrics, with white in the middle, I think I did mine with 5" blocks. Anyway, I love this block! I gave mine to a good quilting buddy for christmas!

Really pretty , love your colors

rhilkey 05-28-2012 07:47 PM

I did mine in different size blocks: 10 inch and 5 1/2's, mixed the fabrics in the squares

cindy4857 05-28-2012 08:29 PM

very pretty. I really like the flowered center block you used. It makes me smile. Can't wait to see it (the quilt) all finished.

malega 05-29-2012 06:01 AM

They are very pretty blocks, I made a baby quilt
out off them, they take a bit off time but you do get it done after
all the sorting out of the pattern.

KSue 05-29-2012 08:01 AM

This is going to be real pretty once it is all together. I too am working on this 10 min. block and I must say it took me a while to get going on it but....I am also using a directional fabric and have to stop and think before I actually put it together - I am doing one for my SIL using the Dallas Cowboys.

lollygagging 05-29-2012 01:55 PM

Like your fabric choices and your story! Thanks for sharing.

I love these colors, too... perfect for my guest room... LOL! I have yet to try this block either but want to.

ccthomas 05-30-2012 04:10 AM

I've been wondering what is going on as well. I thought I needed to do some "cleaning" on my computer. I will hold with that task.

very nice!

Cindy60545 05-30-2012 05:02 AM

I've seen the youtube on this & have wanted to try it. I'll get to it someday. Yours is going to come out great, can't wait to see it finished.

mommessy 05-30-2012 06:13 AM

Your blocks look really nice. I just saw the Youtube video as well and ended up ordering the book. And I somehow knew it would be a one-hour block instead of a 10-minute one!

Sewfine 05-30-2012 06:23 AM

I know I tried that block also. Don't know why it is called the 10 minute block.

MaryAnnMc 05-30-2012 06:27 AM

That's a cute block! I'm glad to hear you say it's easy, I'll have to give it a try.

ItsJustMe 05-30-2012 06:45 AM

Really great work on the block. I'm making this one, too. It's fun once you get the hang of it. Took me much longer than 10 minutes. lol

schwanton 05-30-2012 06:59 AM

I would love to see a picture of your 10 minute blocks in batiks. Would you be able to post? Thanks.

EvelynJ 05-30-2012 07:00 AM

Helen, I so know what you mean. The first "fan" I did was a practice seemed to take forever as I changed the placements, colors, and trims over and over. I love your square, I know your quilt will be just lovely.

yetta 05-30-2012 07:07 AM

it looks like such a fun block,,thank you for sharing

nstitches4u 05-31-2012 05:14 PM

Very pretty. I haven't tried this block yet, but I'm going to have to add it to my to-do list. (My list just keeps getting longer. LOL)

AZ Jane - have you done that???? I just completed a large throw using the 10 minute block pattern and 10" blocks (all 5). Wow - my mind is churning ... can't wait 'til I get home to try it. Thanks

bunbytes 06-02-2012 06:55 AM

LOL! That sounds about right about 10 minutes=1hour.

Nanaquilts44 06-02-2012 07:24 AM

Very pretty blocks!

Jammin' Jane 06-11-2012 09:57 PM

Very attractive! Nice job! :)

nwm50 06-15-2014 10:11 AM

Very pretty! I'm fixing to learn this pattern at next stitch in! I like how u did the two color outside blocks as opposed to doing one color! Gonna try that way...so thanks!
