You are an inspiration. A large part of the joy of making quilts is sharing with others. There are lots of reasons we share our quilts and you have found your place on this journey. Thank you for sharing. Your quilts are great.

Rugosa is the perfect name for you. Rosa rugosa is one of the toughest kinds of rose. It doesn't succumb to anything and keeps blooming beautifully no matter where it is planted. Thank you for sharing your inspiring story. Your quilts are so beautiful and what a Wonderful way to show your gratitude and caring!

Back to basenjis and years ago: I had a couple of pet basenjis, and started to get into showing and breeding, for which I needed a kennel name. I'm a big flower gardener, basenjis have winkled brows, the word is used to described 'wrinkled' so my first show basenji was Rosa Rugosa (wrinkled leaves on a rose), call name Rosa. My second girl was Rugosa Rubra (red wrinkles, wrinkled leaves on a red rose) Wild, yet look appropriate in the proper garden. Hence, Rugosa! I can't get the Rugosa out of my brain, so now all quilt labels contain 'made by Rugosa creations! Wrinkled quilts? I have a couple of Rugosa roses in my garden, and like you said, they are tough. These are a couple of quilts I donated as prizes at our national a few years |
Beatuiful quilts. Great job.

I guess now would be a perfect time to explain why that is my 'name'

It is wonderful that you have these dogs in your life! how you came to using the name Rugosa is really neat. Ever since I first saw the wild rugosas blooming along the coastline in Maine, I've always included rugosa roses and hybrids in our gardens. we are organic gardeners and they resist diseases so well. What you have been able to do is quite thrilling! Keep up the good works! |
Very pretty quilts..

Thank you for sharing pictures of your quilts and your story. Your quilts are beautiful!! I especially like your dog quilt. I posted a picture of one I made by that pattern, but yours shows more imagination. I really like the white tips on their tails and the paw prints going across the quilt. Thanks for sharing.

You are an amazing lady and your quilts are beautiful.

What beautiful quilts and a touching story of courage, and surviving under difficult circumstances. Congratulations on how far you have come. I fell and had a ruptured C-4-5 disk last Feb, had to learn how to feed myself, stand and walk again, but am so grateful that through God's will and the amazing therapists in rehab. I'm back nearly 95% with just a few things I can't do yet. I hope quilting has done for you what it did for me, get me through a difficult time in my life and I'm so happy you came out the other side. I'm sure your loving family had a lot to do with your recovery.

Your story is wonderful, and your quilts are beautiful. They are sure to be loved. My heart goes out to the sons who have been so dreadfully injured in this awful war and the moms who love them.

God Bless You for using your talents to help others cope with the problems this life throws at us.

Oh Wow! Your two basenji and bunny quilts are Fantastic!!! The last one especially cracks me up! I bet those two quilts made the competitors at Nationals try especially hard to win them!
Is it true that basenjis make a sort of purring noise and yodel instead of barking? It is wonderful that you have these dogs in your life! Basenjis are more or less vocal depending on their dna, some dogs are noisier than others due to their pedigree. They don't purr, that's kind of quiet and soothing, they yodel, which is a happy sound, and they scream, not so happy. I have 2 separate dna families here, one never makes any noise, one is very vocal I hope this is allowed, here's a you tube video with the basenjis howling (there are also yodeling and screaming in other videos) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rMXqcUx90s It's funny, every time I play something like this on the computer, my dogs run over and get all excited, but any other dog sound? Nothing Before I had the accident, I had a bunch of fabric, and ideas for basenji quilts. I still do, so plan to use them up
