My 7th finished LBB (Little Brown Bird) block.... finished

I'm done with my 7th block from the Little Brown Bird quilt by Margaret Docherty. It's actually block #2 in the book but I couldn't do this one until I got back to the winter house where I have most of my stash. Anyway, I altered this one a bit and am anxious to see if you all like it or think it's way too different from my other blocks.

I had some fabric in my stash that was small flowers so I stitched those using the broderie perse method. I stuffed them a little and put french knots in the centers. And, the other change I did was to make a purple orchid in the basket. The pattern shape looked like an orchid to me even though the picture in the book wasn't an orchid. I don't know if I like it or not. It is different.

But, if you want to see my other blocks you can go to my album.... click on my name, click on 'view profile', scroll down to the bottom and you'll see my albums on the left hand side.

My next block is #6 in the book..... a basket made of 3/16" bias strips ..... we'll see how that goes. I keep trying new things on this quilt.... still having fun..... if anyone wants to join me, let me know. I'd love to share ideas with someone else working on this one.

Your blocks are just beautiful. I like the dark blossom in the basket, it offers a welcome contrast to the other flowers. You are very artistic and your blocks are somewhat intimidating. I couldn't begin to match your talent!!! Keep up the good work.

nanna-up-north 11-02-2014 08:36 AM

Thanks so much for your encouraging words, everyone. It keeps me going, literally. I feel like I'll let my friends down if I don't keep busy to finish this one.

And, I see so many saying that they can't do it. YES, you CAN!! It took me years to tackle needle turn applique but now that I've had someone show me a way that works for me, I LOVE it. So, keep working at it if you want to do applique. That's what I've had to do and I still see plenty of areas where I can improve. But, I love the look of applique and I have to keep working at it.

Thanks again.

salisaquilter 11-02-2014 09:17 AM

Would like to keep track of your work.. I have chosen to do 8of the blocks with the birds. IN WOOL. I think this will be a challenge. But !!! I love challenge. Lets keep track of each other

nanna-up-north 11-02-2014 09:51 AM

Yes, let's keep track of each other, Sally. Are you posting your blocks anywhere? I would be challenged to do this in wool as well. I used to live in NC and am curious about where you are. I lived on the coast 1 year and lived about a hour north of Charlotte for a couple of years.

wildyard 11-02-2014 10:18 AM
