Finally, found the CD with my avatar to show as some people wanted to see it. I made this little mini a few yrs. ago and it was begging for another row of something. Saw Rhonda's Boston Blocks in July at this site and gave it a try. First I tried HST's around it, but knew Boston Blocks would give the finish I needed. Just drew a cardboard template and made the blocks. They didn't turn out so even so I'll keep working at it. Hope you enjoy this mini!

The colors are wonderful! I love Rhonda's Boston block method too!

Either you got lucky, or you have a gift for selecting colors, because your quilt "sparkles" !
I think it is grand!

stitchinMamaw 10-19-2009 12:13 PM

I love it . I really need to get the time to try Rhonda's techniques ! From another Va lady . Annie

NorBanaquilts 10-19-2009 12:51 PM

Wow, what a cutie! How big are those blocks?

SulaBug 10-19-2009 01:37 PM

Your avatar picture, is so cute!! :)
I have been looking at it, when I
see your name. Thank you for
sharing the bigger picture!!

That is so cute!! How tiny is it???

Rhonda 10-19-2009 01:46 PM

What a great way to use the Bostons. Love it. I am glad it did the trick for you! I just used them in a pieced border which I have never done before. Loved the way they look in a border like that. You did a good job on your little quilt.

Can we see the whole quilt?

I think I got lucky! No, it's called computer enhancement, but thank you for your kind words and compliment! I am still working on my color coordination!

Yes, it sure did the trick! The HST's I tried just didn't cut it. Thank you for your kindness and we ALL just adore your excellent work! It's so unique! Sure wish I could show the whole quilt because it does look better than the fuzzy avatar. We are looking to find me a better camera as my son said my pics are way too big the reason I couldn't load them. I have another pic of this with the border I'll pull up for you. Here it is:

I forgot to tell you what a "striking" quilt you have there as your avatar and it sparkles too! Just love it!

My avatar is called "Carpenter's Wheel"
It is sixteen inches square. It was inspired by a quilt block my son in law selected for a quilt more than ten years ago.
It happened that I joined a round robin on this board, and decided that it was time for Aaron to get his quilt.
The colors were also from a paisley shirt that he loves, and the background is pine wood grain or is it oak <g> ... at any rate, it fits him since he started his working career as a carpenter, the block is carpenter's wheel and ... I am very anxious to see what happens to it over the next ten months or so.
Thank you for the compliment.

Your welcome! Your avatar sure sings my song! Have always loved that pattern and I appeciate your sharing the story behind it. It just seems so fitting for Aaron and yes, the outcomes are as interesting as the incomes.

What a jewel of a quilt. Please let me know where I can find out more about the Boston blocks. Is there a thread here that tells?

Rhonda 10-19-2009 10:08 PM

Wvdek The Boston Blocks are one of my shortcuts. I wrote an Ebook on it and have 2 more EBooks with a new one coming out probably next week.

Here are my links you can check out. The Bookmark tutorial is free and it has the directions for making the Bostons. The EBook then has more info on making these into quilt blocks that you can use to make quilts or small projects

I also did a star point block which you can see in the free tutorial for making a mouse pad.
My avatar is made with the new block that is a Wings Block. It is in the new Ebook coming out. BTW the curves in my avatar are an optical illusion. There are no curved piecings.

You can also find more info on my BitsnPieces Workshop web site. It is a free teaching site.

I offer free templates if you are interested. No postage needed just send me your postal address as these are hard acrylic templates and need to go through the snail mail. I have a 1 1/2" and a 1 1/4" acrylic and a Dresden Kaleidoscope template. I am also offering a 2 1/2" and a scored 3" template for the new ebook.

If you haven't seen these here are my links for the info I have available:
