My Bargello Adventure
4 Attachment(s)
I had wanted to try a bargello quilt. Two friends were doing this one, so I jumped on board. We all used our batiks, but had our own colorways. I had to learn that you start with the center row (the 'spine'?) and then add rows on either sides to build it out. There is a chart to follow for color placement. It's easier than it looks. All the 'heavy lifting' was done by the designer.
I'll be adding borders before I quilt it. Hope you like it! |
I was thinking of you while watching the news about Ida yesterday. So glad to see you on the board and safe.
All that aside, I love your colorway on this bargello. It is really a masterpiece. |
Wow! Love the color way you chose, Sewbiz. Bargello is on my bucket list, someday....

Your quilt is gorgeous already. I can't wait to see it completed. I love the colors and how you have laid them out.
Nice Bargello, great movement!

Wonderful bargello.

All that aside, I love your colorway on this bargello. It is really a masterpiece. Thank you to everyone who said nice things about my first bargello. It won’t be my last! |
Funny what many of you said about liking the color way. I just used the batiks I had on hand. With a pattern like this, really any colors come out spectacular.
Beautiful! Was it hard to iron the strips with all the seams? I have a bargello quilt on my bucket list.
WOW! Love it.
Such a lively quilt. Lots of life and movement. Great work.
This is on my 'have to do list'. Your quilt is beyond beautiful! This quilt shows such talents. Thanks so much for sharing this one.
It's beautiful and I too love the colours - particularly that it's got different colours and not just one colour tone.
Great job - I have yet to get mine off the bucket list. I love the fact that you used from your stash!!
Wow, that is beautiful.
The one I did and shared here was so fun to make. I haven't thought about making another one. But seeing yours has sparked a interest again. LOL!
That is absolutely beautiful, the colors are so rich.
I love the beautiful colors! I haven’t made one with batiks before. Really don’t know reviews on how well colors do after washing, fade or not? I have only used them in doll clothes and seem stiff. Guess I need to research -lol How many colors do you need or did you use for this one and what size will it be?
I didn’t realize you were my neighbor- lol- La here |
copycat, you iron all the seams the same way for each strip... one with seams up, then one with seams down. The seams nest and make it quite doable.
Thank you, QuiltBaer. |
Wow, that's gorgeous, SBG!!! :)
Glad you guys are okay too! |
That's a lovely bargello - well done!
Thank you, Susie.
I love your Bargello quilt. I have been thinking of making another one and this one has inspired me to start buying batiks. Do you remember the name of your pattern? I made one for my granddaughter years ago when she graduated from high school. I have made her and her family other quilts but the Bargello is still her favorite.
Thanks, FG-- The pattern is called Aurora Borealis and is from the book, Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts.
WOW! Love your bargello!
Thank you, Slow.
Beautiful SBG! I’m drooling at your batiks, just stunning! I’ve been debating adding it to my list for next year, you’ve inspired me!
You should definitely give it a try, Lisa. Construction is different and the whole process is pretty fun.
Beautiful! Looks very complicated for a first bargello.
Lookin' good! The book sounds familiar. I bought a book with bargello directions, maybe it's that one. After sewing BH's Trips I saw the possibilities for bargello and wanted a book with info about it.
Unfortunately, I usually have small pieces of fabric and mostly do scrappy blocks. Planning ahead to have enough fabric to do the bargello design for the whole top seems critical to it's success. |
Wow! I've never tried a bargello before. I may have to look into doing one.
Thanks Giv... Most of the patterns in the books I have take 20 1/4 yd WOF pieces. I have been collecting batiks for years so I didn't have to buy much.
I love Bargello quilts. Yours is great. Every one is so different and they are fun to make. You did a great job on yours. I would love to see pictures of your friends quilts so we can see how different colorways give different looks.
