My Bargello Adventure

4 Attachment(s)
I had wanted to try a bargello quilt. Two friends were doing this one, so I jumped on board. We all used our batiks, but had our own colorways. I had to learn that you start with the center row (the 'spine'?) and then add rows on either sides to build it out. There is a chart to follow for color placement. It's easier than it looks. All the 'heavy lifting' was done by the designer.

I'll be adding borders before I quilt it.
Hope you like it!

I was thinking of you while watching the news about Ida yesterday. So glad to see you on the board and safe.
All that aside, I love your colorway on this bargello. It is really a masterpiece.

Wow! Love the color way you chose, Sewbiz. Bargello is on my bucket list, someday....

Your quilt is gorgeous already. I can't wait to see it completed. I love the colors and how you have laid them out.

Why how sweet of you, Red. Yes, we made it through the storm ok. We lost power for about a day and a half, so of course the internet was gone too, except on our phones. It’s so nice and quiet when the power is out.

Thank you to everyone who said nice things about my first bargello. It won’t be my last!

sewbizgirl 08-31-2021 09:33 PM

Funny what many of you said about liking the color way. I just used the batiks I had on hand. With a pattern like this, really any colors come out spectacular.

Beautiful! Was it hard to iron the strips with all the seams? I have a bargello quilt on my bucket list.

QuiltBaer 09-01-2021 04:59 AM

WOW! Love it.

Trapunta 09-01-2021 05:00 AM

Such a lively quilt. Lots of life and movement. Great work.

juliasb 09-01-2021 05:04 AM

This is on my 'have to do list'. Your quilt is beyond beautiful! This quilt shows such talents. Thanks so much for sharing this one.

lizzie3 09-01-2021 05:05 AM

It's beautiful and I too love the colours - particularly that it's got different colours and not just one colour tone.

travelinggramma 09-01-2021 05:59 AM

Great job - I have yet to get mine off the bucket list. I love the fact that you used from your stash!!

Homespun 09-01-2021 07:09 AM

Wow, that is beautiful.

RedGarnet222 09-01-2021 10:07 AM

The one I did and shared here was so fun to make. I haven't thought about making another one. But seeing yours has sparked a interest again. LOL!

Karamarie 09-01-2021 11:56 AM

That is absolutely beautiful, the colors are so rich.

toogie 09-01-2021 01:33 PM

I love the beautiful colors! I haven’t made one with batiks before. Really don’t know reviews on how well colors do after washing, fade or not? I have only used them in doll clothes and seem stiff. Guess I need to research -lol How many colors do you need or did you use for this one and what size will it be?
I didn’t realize you were my neighbor- lol- La here

sewbizgirl 09-01-2021 05:21 PM

copycat, you iron all the seams the same way for each strip... one with seams up, then one with seams down. The seams nest and make it quite doable.

Thank you, QuiltBaer.

SusieQOH 09-02-2021 04:15 AM

Wow, that's gorgeous, SBG!!! :)
Glad you guys are okay too!

That's a lovely bargello - well done!

sewbizgirl 09-02-2021 06:50 AM

Thank you, Susie.

I love your Bargello quilt. I have been thinking of making another one and this one has inspired me to start buying batiks. Do you remember the name of your pattern? I made one for my granddaughter years ago when she graduated from high school. I have made her and her family other quilts but the Bargello is still her favorite.

sewbizgirl 09-02-2021 10:51 AM

Thanks, FG-- The pattern is called Aurora Borealis and is from the book, Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts.

Slow2Sew 09-03-2021 10:52 AM

WOW! Love your bargello!

sewbizgirl 09-03-2021 12:33 PM

Thank you, Slow.

tallchick 09-03-2021 01:27 PM

Beautiful SBG! I’m drooling at your batiks, just stunning! I’ve been debating adding it to my list for next year, you’ve inspired me!

sewbizgirl 09-03-2021 04:33 PM

You should definitely give it a try, Lisa. Construction is different and the whole process is pretty fun.

Irishrose2 09-03-2021 04:41 PM

Beautiful! Looks very complicated for a first bargello.

givio 09-04-2021 04:34 PM

Lookin' good! The book sounds familiar. I bought a book with bargello directions, maybe it's that one. After sewing BH's Trips I saw the possibilities for bargello and wanted a book with info about it.

Unfortunately, I usually have small pieces of fabric and mostly do scrappy blocks. Planning ahead to have enough fabric to do the bargello design for the whole top seems critical to it's success.

lindaschipper 09-05-2021 05:52 AM

Wow! I've never tried a bargello before. I may have to look into doing one.

sewbizgirl 09-05-2021 05:58 AM

Thanks Giv... Most of the patterns in the books I have take 20 1/4 yd WOF pieces. I have been collecting batiks for years so I didn't have to buy much.

ckcowl 09-05-2021 06:26 AM

I love Bargello quilts. Yours is great. Every one is so different and they are fun to make. You did a great job on yours. I would love to see pictures of your friends quilts so we can see how different colorways give different looks.
