My Blooming 9-patch

I've been wanting to make this pattern for a while, and finally did it. I've been doing a lot of "use-up-my-stash" quilts, and haven't been fabric shopping in a long time. So even though I still have lots of stash, I decided to actually go to a shop and buy all the fabric for the quilt at once .... with a little help from the shop owner, I came up with this combination. (I did end up buying the backing online).

The colors aren't quite true to life in the pictures. the pictures make it look more blue than it is ... should be purple. And the orange isn't quite as bright as in the picture.

I quilted it with Glide 60 thread, using a panto that is very meandering.

Ohhhhh i’m in love! I just love it! I have the book and yours just made me add it to my 2022 list of quilts to do. Beautifully done.

I think Blooming 9 patch is hard to make from a stash because of the different amounts of same or similar fabrics. You purchased great combinations and made a beautiful quilt. That panto pattern looks like one I use a lot and really like called Bora Bora. I haven't purchased fabric in quite a while but after seeing your quilt I'm thinking of pulling out my pattern and considering a purchase for Christmas.

I've admired that pattern for a long time, and you did a great job with it. Just beautiful!

This is gorgeous! Well done! I've only made a baby quilt in this pattern but you've inspired me to think about doing a bigger quilt one of these days.

Oh, my, yes! Photos color accuracy or not what a beautiful color and pattern challenge. Who knew a simple little 9 patch could be so stunning.

Looks great. great fabric choices, as I first thought that they were all cut from the same master fabric (kind of like the kalidescope quilts are)

Oh what a beautiful B9P you've made. I have the book/pattern and was somewhat surprised how small the 9P and alternating blocks are. Curious if any fellow QB members have enlarged the block size and how it affected the overall appearance of the final quilt? In my case, I'm intending to make a king size quilt using large scale prints so I'm thinking a little larger sized block/9P would be appropriate but I do not want to lose the lovely illusion of the original pattern. I did note that the free pattern link provided by DebLuvsQuilting is a larger scale block/9P - interesting.

I made my own pattern in EQ (mostly just to figure out how much fabric of each color to buy). My finished blocks were 4.5 inches.

I have also had this on my list for a long time. Congrats to you for getting it done! And your quilt and the “bloom” are really pretty. I love your bold colors.

I have done the same in EQ8 using both 3.75" and 4.5" just to see how many fabrics it would take and their yardages. I, too, favor the 4.5" finished block with 10 fabrics (unless I repeat any) which I think would be beautiful. And large!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful finished B9P and modification info!
