I am new at quilting and decided to try the cathedral window. I am not real thrilled with the turn out. I guess I did something wrong.

How did you do that block? Never seen it done that way, did you have a pattern/instructions? Is that raw edges? I know there are different ways to do any block.

I went here and went by here instructions. Strange process, but hers looks better. I have never completely finished a quilt yet, so I am still new and exploring.

This is one I have tried several times and have decided I need a personal lesson. I can't seem to follow the directions and get it to come out right. It reminds me of when I tried to crochet a granny square when I was ten. I sat down with my grandma and she had me on the right track in no time. I wish my granny was here now. She could show us how to turn out a perfect block in a flash.

I have seen the square in a square done that way, but this is an interesting addition.....I will try it when I am feeling better.....

Well, I realized why it is so crooked. The seems on the back are sewn over in opposite directions

I just watched that. Make sure all of your measurements are correct. That's where I always mess up--accurate measurements. Remember that you have to have 1/4 inch overlap on the "folded" side. Just remember--practice makes prefeck! :D

If you are interested in trying a different method for cathedral windows, there is a tutorial on this quilter's board
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-35742-1.htm
it takes more fabric than the method you used.
