here are some foundation pieced blocks i'm working on. not sure what i want to do with it as these are my first real pieced blocks. all the backing/pinning/binding stuff scares the bajeebies out of me, so i'm conteplating just finishing them as a rag quilt.maybe put a border/shashing around each block first...not sure

Those will make into a beautiful quilt. Keep going with them and we'll be here to help you with the rest. Really the hardest part is in the piecing and yours look excellent!

WoW!! To everything!!!

Would a wall-hanging or table runner be less intimidating than a larger quilt? They are a good place to learn layering, quilting, and binding.
BTW your piecing and choice of color is great.

Please continue, they are beautiful & don't rag quilt them or you will lose too much of your pattern.

Would it help if you changed your piecing of these blocks a bit?
Hopefully you can see from the lines within this graphic what I mean.

that's exactly why i was thinging bout putting maybe a 1 inch border around the whole block. this way when i stitch them together with a 1/2 inch seam, it won't take away from the pattern and you will still have about 1/2 showing that won't get ragged. now i guess i would cut the borer fabric 1 1/2 inches? to allow for a finished border with seen allowances

Excellent work! Don't give up and make a rag quilt. The wonderful people on this board will help with the rest. When you get to the point you need help just ask. We want you to learn the joy of completing a quilt you never thought you could do. Hang in there. It just looks intimidating.

I personally wouldn't do a rag quilt. You have the start of something really beautiful here. Watch the colors, watch the placement, take it slow and everything will fall into place. Helps to look at 'done' quilts here on the board, and elsewhere online. Something you really like, go for it! I am not saying that a rag quilt isn't beautiful, because they are. I am merely saying as your first quilt if you see something you really want to do, you might want to take the time to do it. Lots of help here on the board and plenty of tutorials online. Learn by doing. And enjoy yourself! Show us the finished project, please!
