My daughter’s (first) quilt.

I finished her first quilt today. She is 4 and picked the fabric for the front and back, the pattern, and the thread I used for quilting. I used Sun Print 2019 by Alison Glass for Andover on the top. The backing is a piece I picked up at a stash buster sale at my LQS. I wish I had more of it, though. I kind of wanted to use it on a quilt for myself. The pattern is called Slice of Life by MSQC. My FMQ loops leave something to be desired but some of it looks pretty good so I’m pleased with the quilt overall. Thank you for looking.

https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/boy.gif Great teamwork! You and your daughter will have happy memories that went into the making of this quilt. I bet you might just give her the quilting bug as well.

Wow, good for her, nice job by both of you.
I think your loops are lovely and allover design on that is a great choice. Well done both of you!
Great quilt!
Nice job to you both!
She did a great job on the colors and you did a great job on the quilt. I'm sure she will love it for a long time.
Too bad she chose a backing that you would have liked for a quilt of your own, but it does show that you have the same taste in fabric! Good job!
That is very pretty.
What a great cooperative effort. So cute too and your quilting is fine for the project.
Very nice quilt. Great job by both of you.
Beautiful quilt and fantastic team work. She really has an eye for color and your two made great memories together in the making of this quilt. Nice quilting too
Wow, she did fantastic with picking out her colors for that quilt. That quilt will be fond memories for a lifetime. Your quilting is terrific. Y'all make a great team!

I just went and watched the video by Jenny Doan at MSQC and I am thinking you must have added some sashing in between the pieces in each block. What size did you cut your sashing as I really like the way you separated your pieces. It looks so much nicer with the sashing. Could you please share what size you cut your sashing?
Jordan, the pattern I have calls for sashing at 2.5 inches. It’s basically a sashed 9 patch made with 10 inch squares that you slice apart and turn the pieces. Here is the link to the pattern on their site - https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...-missouri-star.
Thank you everyone for your kind words! Her color selection was a precut packed of 10 inch squares but it’s a start! She already has the quilting bug in a way. She wants to help me quilt and likes to hold my prices/blocks as they are guided through my machine (with hands far away from the needle, of course). She has been asking for a toy sewing machine lately after I told her I saved my old one for her when she gets older.

Is your daughter using her new quilt yet?

MicheleC-Thank you for the sashing size information on your pretty quilt. Hope your daughter continues to enjoy sewing and quilting.

Sounds like she might wind up being our youngest member on The Quilting Board soon. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

I loved the quilt you and your daughter made together. In fact, I thought the pattern looked familiar and lo and behold I went looking thru my pattern bins and there it was. Guess I really like it! :)
Congratulate her for me please! Great job for both of you!! This quilt is making me smile from ear to ear!

Cute and fun quilt. How lovely to do this project together and have shared memories!

Did she help you sew any of the seams? My grandson was 5 when we watched one of Alex Anderson's Simply Quilts episodes on kids making quilts. He decided that he wanted to make a quilt too. We discussed what he would do with it -- keep it for himself, donate it to sick kids, or give it to a family member. He decided to give it as a baby gift to his auntie.
I cut 4 1/2" squares and he sewed them together on the machine while I supervised. Yeah, some of his seams were wonky (I redid a few after he went home for the day) but all in all it was a good quilt for a 5-year-old. It was 36" x 36" when he decided that it was big enough "because babies are really tiny, Grandma." I quilted it (FMQ kind of scared him that he might put a needle through his finger) and he gave it to his auntie at her baby shower. Cousin went to his baptism wrapped in Grandson's quilt. |

I realize that the title of my post could be misleading now that I’m re-reading it and reading some of the comments! I’m sorry about that! I didn’t mean she sewed the quilt. |
