We started with two each light and dark 6" squares, drew diagonal on light square, sewed 1/4" on either side of drawn line, cut between the sewn lines and trimmed to 5 1/2" and then sewed into hourglass format. And I don't think you have to measure to eighth inches when you cut the nine patches. You can cut the nine patch close but not precise. Someone should try cutting only one fourth instead of one third. A brand new block? ? ? Those little triangles make the cutest little hour glasses. Also check out post #15 for lots of good tips. |
I have just received my layer cakes in the mail and am ready to start on my quilt. I really appreciate this topic and especially message #15. I've printed it out, in fact. Will make sure I do the starching (I sometimes forget that!)..Thanks for all the good ideas......:)

Your quilt is beautiful. I have been thinking of using this pattern for a family reunion quilt next July 4th, as I will get fabric from the majority of my family and I make the quilt, it's always a challenge to see what I can do with the fabric I'm sent, sometimes it has been very challenging, but I enjoy the challenge and the results are worth it. Maybe next year I'll be the one to win the quilt, I certainly hope so, as the color is purple, one of my favorites.
