  :-o Seriously!

This was my first attempt at the DNP, and thought the two christmas prints would work...but didn't

So, I took a different approach... Added some coordinating prints to bring out the colors .... and TA DA!

I like it now, I GUESS  (AFTER TALKING MYSELF OUT OF RIPPING IT APART). But only you guys would know what I meant if I called it the Disappearing Nine Patch that DISAPPEARED! CAMO CHRISTMAS :?:

I showed it to my son (10 years old) his reaction was "Wow".
I showed it to my husband and his reaction was .... well lets just say that I shouldn't have asked

OK, so I need your honest opinions here....should I finish it? Or should I put it on the wall to remind me what NOT to do again?

Thanks!

Oh finish it.....that is cute and the son loved it!! But now you can make another one....:-)

Kyiav10 10-15-2008 11:57 PM

Finish it. If you don't want to keep it or gift it, you can always donate it.

I actually like it.

Kyia

sewaholic 10-15-2008 11:57 PM

Finish it. Once you have quilted it - it will look different.
Put it down to experience. If you really still hate it donate it, or let the son that likes it have it. You could always applique something on the squares with the little stars.
Kyiav10 you must have answered while I was writing. :D

Izy 10-16-2008 12:22 AM

I think that is a good idea that Kyia had about appliqueing some bright red simple stars on the white blocks, but I think its lovely as it is anyway, I think the problem was lack of contrast in the fabrics, such a shame as your work is lovely :D

tlrnhi 10-16-2008 12:56 AM

I like it!

Quilt4u 10-16-2008 01:22 AM

Finish it and give it to your son who loves it.

Bevanger 10-16-2008 05:01 AM

sewsewquilter 10-16-2008 05:05 AM

Finish it. Give to your son with know a pretty quilt when he sees one.

Alaskan lady 10-16-2008 05:06 AM

Finish it! I think you will be much happier with it once it is completed. Thnaks for sharing. I love christmas stuff.

scrappinmad 10-16-2008 05:34 AM

I'd finish it too. Especially if your son liked it. :-)

sewjoyce 10-16-2008 06:26 AM

Definitely finish it and give it to your son -- he has good taste :!:

shellyp 10-16-2008 06:58 AM

I like it. My vote is to finish it.

Denise 10-16-2008 07:00 AM

i like it, haven't attempt the DNP on my to do list. Yes i agree with the other ladies , finish it and make more. I can send you my addy if you don't want to keep it, (giggles). Thanks for sharing.

retrogirl02 10-16-2008 07:22 AM

I like it. Sometimes I just have to put a project aside if I'm not in love with it or it takes FOREVER to do. I think the disappearing nine is such a neat little pattern & have planned to do an Ispy that way. You just have to be careful to keep your novelties on the outside 4 corners so they aren't cut with the rotary. I want to jump on that but am mid project and promised myself I'd stick to the Boston Challenge. NEW YEARS IS FAST APPROACHING!!!
Happy Sewing

THANKS for all the comments. It is suppose to go to a fundraiser event next month (I will have to come up with another name though). My son already has alot of my quilts, or I would give it to him. When I finish it, I will post a picture of him and the quilt together though.

So after having my pitty party last night, I decided to make another DNP with contrasting fabric scraps that I had. It is only about 15" square, but I know that I can do it now.

The one that didn't disappear. Used contrasting fabrics on this one!

well done for tryng again, I really like this this version :D

mary quite contrary 10-16-2008 11:26 AM

I like it. Finish it up. My goal is to have a Christmas quilt for every bed in the house. You just have the first one done for your son.

Quilt4u 10-16-2008 02:14 PM

Love them both. you can never have to many quilts for your son.

johnette 10-16-2008 06:17 PM

I love it. I am really "in to" the DNP right now. I have 2 done and trying to get about 8 more done before Christmas, I really must be crazy. :)

bluebird 10-16-2008 07:29 PM

Agree with everyone, finish it, looks just fine. No one needs to know what it started out as. Love the snowman fabric on your next one.

GailG 10-16-2008 08:34 PM

I agree with bluebird and all the others. It looks fine. Just don't tell anyonw that it's a D9P. Finish that baby and be proud. Quilting Christmas symbols (stars, bells, etc) in the white background squares may be nice.

reneebobby 10-17-2008 02:37 AM

I liked them both but to funny with the husband why are they like that? I guess we will never know. lol But both are really nice.

Margandi 10-21-2008 04:56 AM

The nine patch may have disappeared, but it's still a very neat quilt. I'm sure it will make a great snuggler for your son.

I understand where you are coming from. My first attempt at a D9P was out of Christmas fabrics as well. Well presto--- it disappeared too, all that work, gone. But the good thing was, my neighbor loves anything Christmas and she cried upon receiving it. So finish yours, take it as a lesson well learned and be blessed by the recipient. I am in a slump and am amazed at all the Christmas projects getting done this early in the year...

farmerswife 08-01-2010 08:46 AM

Give it to your son. His answer was the right one. :)

teeheehee...You did what I do all the time (But I have found that if I hit edit and fix it, no one will ever know.) You probably did exactly what I do:When the quote comes up in the block where you will type your reply, scroll down until you get to another set of brackets at the end of the person's post. It will look like this [/quote] This is the end of her quote. Then I hit Enter a couple of times to make a space. Start your typing and you'll be good.

I can't believe I'm the one replying on this. I'm the most lame when it comes to the computer. So perhaps I have learned a little bit.

franie 08-01-2010 09:11 AM

Finish it up and donate it. Someone will love it.
