I finally finished my nieces graduation quilt. I also cut out my first applique and applied it. I FMQ'd it. I am debating if I need to hand stitch around it. I do wish that I had FMQ'd the border. its 6 wide which is too big not to FMQ it. Can I FMQ after I have washed the quilt? Oh...and I also have a wonderful tip. if you are doing an applique use a glue stick to hold the paper on the backside of the material to cut. you can glue the outside of the tracing if you do not want the glue on your material (the picture part) it works great to cut the piece. And next time...I will use a different fabric for the border instead of the same color as the border.

It think as long as you don't to a very dense pattern, you should be OK to add some FMQ quilting to your finished quilt. It could be as simple as a wavy line down the center of each border piece. Be sure to pin thoroughly first.
You could also randomly scatter buttons. I think that would be cute & go with the prints. |
That is such a cute quilt.
Why don't you use a chalk pencil and drawing kitty outlines similiar to your kitty applique and then quilt it. |
I like this idea!!! I would have never thought of it...love this board and all the members!
