Tonight I started cutting the pieces out. I'm just kinda winging it - so if you have any advise or anything that may help - please let me know. I am really kind of clueless.

pining the pieces onto the Dew Sew to see if I like it or not before thread paiting it on...like I know how to do that..lol

I don't have any help or suggestions but would love to send you bags & bags of encouragement. It looks great so far.

It's going to look good. Keep trucking along. At first I was wondering about all the butterflys on the pickup then I realized that they were the pins. Can't wait to see the finished quilt. BrendaK

Love the picture. Have never done an art quilt, would love to see yours when you get it done.

You've got a good start. Leave the butterflys off until the end so you can balance your picture as you put them in.... and perhaps leave their wings free. You show a willingness to be bold and that will stand you in good stead. It isn't a photo quit... it's only from a photo, like an artist painting from a photo of her childhood. Ah, I'm old enough to have driven that truck. Makes me miss the ranch where I grew up.

WHAT! your butterflys are PINS??? Well, a butterfly or two never hurt any quilt. :-P

Wouldn't call that winging it - looks really good to me

I used the steam a seam lite which is tacky so that you can reposition the piece until you were 100% happy with it, before ironing it down. I find that easier than pins. It also doesn't gum up my needles.
Your design looks great and I'm sure the finished quilt will be fabulous
