Ten days ago I didn't know this forum existed, and I had never heard of a D9P! I had a lot of layer cake squares from a guild swap, so I cut them into 5" squares, read some of the tutorials and got this quilt top together. It's for my GGD's 8th birthday. I took it to my LQS and she had never seen one either. She asked me to teach a class in July. I took home some fat quarters to make a small sample to display. I made it in two different versions..showing what effect value has on quilts.

Pretty! Isn't it amazing what a difference it is after you cut/resew the block? Like night and day! It works up so fast too!

ann clare 06-17-2010 08:31 AM

Beautiful. Well done

Happy quilt is right! I love it. What beautiful, bright fabrics and they all work so well together because, I think of the unifying effect of the darker green you used for the middle squares.

PurplePassion 06-17-2010 08:49 AM

Welcome, that is a beautiful quilt. very colorful.

Great job on all of them. How exciting that you will now get to teach others, too. Your sample really show the effect of the different values.

craftybear 06-17-2010 11:19 AM

You did a wonderful job on all your D9p's love the color choices too.

ranger 06-17-2010 01:06 PM

Great job. The D9P is so versatile...lots of layouts and you can use 1,2 3 colors or go completely scrappy. Nice to be able to teach someone else something new.

There's another pattern something like the D9P....I plan to try it SOMETIME. I found this site and like her patterns. Here's a link.

Oh WOW!! They are so pretty!

cmagee84 06-17-2010 05:46 PM

Okay, someone help me here...does D9P stand for "disappearing 9 patch"? I know of a totally different pattern called "disappearig 9 Patch" or "blooming 9 patch". This pattern I thought was called "tossed nine patch" by Eleanor Burns...I actually bought her pattern. I have also heard it called "broken 9 patch". All these names for the same pattern can be so confusing!!!

cmagee84 06-17-2010 05:47 PM

Oh, Love the quilts!!! :)

nwm50 06-17-2010 05:47 PM

My eyes really opened up on the 2nd quilt !! Both are real purty.

nwm50 06-17-2010 05:49 PM

cmagee84.....yep it's known as disappearing 9 patch. I think it's the rage on QB right now.
I would like to see your pattern if it different than these?

You can probably go on the "Quilt in a Day" website and find it listed as "tossed nine-patch". I am guessing the technique is the same...make a nine patch and cut into fourths, then toss around and sew back together. My pattern says to keep the center square the same throughout so that all the smallest blocks are the same. It works great for a quick baby quilt.

nwm50 06-17-2010 06:15 PM

thanks...this techinque also applies to dp9.
will take at look at this link that you provided too.

kbiederman 06-17-2010 06:49 PM

The bright & happy quilt has the perfect name.
The other sample quilt looks completely different with your choice of fabrics!! Perfect job on both quilts! Good luck with your class!
