I wanted to make a table runner/topper for our Thanksgiving table. I needed something that was fast to do. I decided from all I had read on here that the DP9 was a fast and easy way to go.
So today I did my tabletopper. It isn't quilted yet. I plan to use a Christmas fabric on the back so I can get more use out of it.
Not sure how I will quilt it. Probably just some straight line quilting or SID, since I am not good at FMQ. For binding I have fabric that will blend in with the background in the apple fabric or I will use the lighter fabric in the blocks with the little bitty vines in it.

I almost forgot I should add a border fabric. Oh dear! Wonder what I will use. I could do the apples but should have a thin one before I put the apple on. Maybe a red thin border then the apples?

How about a thin gold border like the darkest part of the pear for a thin border then the apple for a bit wider border?

Very nice. I've never done a DP9, but will definitely put it on my 'to do list'. Thanks for sharing.

Your Table runner is so pretty!! I also like the D9P quilt block pattern, it' always tunrs out so unique looking. What a great idea putting Christmas fabric on the back. Way to go!!

Pretty! I'd do a thin red border, then another border with either the apple or vine fabric and decide the binding last. I'd probably end up with red binding. :)

Turned out very nice! I really really love the D9P. Quick and easy, lots of fun, and such a beautiful (and more complicated looking) outcome with minimal effort! lol

I think I would do a small red border, then the apples or vines, and bind in red.

Very pretty. I would go along with thin red border, wider border with one of prints already used. Then a red binding will look great from both this side and the Christmas print side.

Very pretty.

Very Pretty. I think a dark green border would really make it *pop*.

Very nice work!

Really nice job! I'd use whatever color is in both sides for the binding. How are you going to protect this beautiful table covering from cranberries and gravy?

I've seen so many beautiful quilts with the D9P, but where can I get the measurements for cutting and making one myself?

There are several good tutorials on here! Just click on search D9P and they should come up. I did mine with 6" squares. Quick and easy!

It will look beautiful on your table!

As far as I understand you can sort of make this any size you want. I cut my squares for the 9 patch 5 inches. That made about a 14 inch 9 patch block. I see alot of them cut the squares 4 inches. I used 5 because the apple fabric was not a real close design.

I just sewed the first border on and I did find a darker green, kind of an avacado green. It fit nicely with the green in the topper. Next will be the apple border then a binding that will blend into the apple fabric.

Mariposa 11-22-2010 05:30 PM

Pretty!
Maybe a thin dark green border, followed by a larger one in the fruit print.

Jingle 11-22-2010 05:49 PM

Very pretty, great job and I think a red border would make it pop.
