I made my first Dresdan Plate quilt. My first impression of it is that it is boring. Maybe the fabric choices are muted. My other problem is that I used broadcloth in the background squares, before I found out that you are not supposed to. I starched them and the quilt is a little stiff. Will the starch wash out well after I wash the quilt? Other than that I am happy the top is finished....Carole :|

It is a very nice quilt, you will like it more as time goes on. Not sure why but that always happens to me. And yes, the starch will wash out.

beautiful ...I like the way you did the sashing,it is so straight, I am working on a dresden now and there are so many little pieces to work with, I was not sure what to use as a backing for the plate, why do you not care for the broad cloth it looks great to me, is it the weight or.....thank you for posting I like how we learn from each other on this board,

Hello all of you Dresden lovers!!! I will be opening up a Dresden Plate swap soon....It is a dual swap - can do both sets or just one of your choice. What has been posted here is beautiful!!! not boring at all.

clem55 09-02-2011 07:02 AM

I think it is lovely, but if yoiu feel it is boring because of the muted colors, why not blanket stitch around them to add contrast and interest before you quilt?

OWALK718 09-02-2011 07:06 AM

I like your quilt top very pretty. Just received my dresden ruler from Missouri Star Quilt Company, was $1.88 - deal of the day. I'm anxious to start.

She is right, you will like it more as time goes on. We are our worst critics. To me, it looks so pretty. There are a lot of things you aren't suppose to do according to the quilt police, but they haven't shown up to take me away yet.
