There are 8 more to do ... for a lap quilt for my Gran for Christmas/her 94th birthday in January.
She's blind and has been stuck in a residential home for 8 years wondering why her God hasn't taken her yet, but she is also the wonderful person who taught me 999 crafts and the importance of Afternoon Tea with traybakes ...

Your block is darling and your gran will love that you made this especially for her. Just wondering are traybakes what we in the US call cookies and the Brits call biscuits?

He's Swedish Christmas Elf, or Tomte, and I only bought some because of the International Fabric Swap!
I then found it incredibly difficult to cut FQ out of it because I wasn't about to cut any elves in half ... and ended up with 9, one of each hat pattern, to use myself. I couldn't seem to get lines that were straight with the selvedges and straight with the elces ...

The tomte is the elf of the land, rather like the Scots Brownie, who can be helpful and protective or can play nasty tricks on you - for instance if you forget to leave out his bowl of rice pudding on Christmas Eve ... In modern times he has evolved to deliver the present from Santa, the Jultomte (Yule)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomte

The children sing about him at Christmas time as well ... here they are at a huge huge Stockhom schools concert at the stadium/ice rink Globen.

Christmas Eve, all is quiet and still ... Titta=Look

Notice Santa keeping the elves in order!

Happy early Scandinavian Christmas!

Traybakes are cakes done in a large flat pan, like the one that comes with the oven, and then cut into little squares, rectangles (or anything more creative!)

Chocolate caramel shortbread, fruity cakes, thin sponge with a lemon icing (frosting), flapjaccs, that sort of thing ... I think the American Girl Scout cookies/bake sales are a bit like that aren't they? recipes baked in obe big pan then cut into slices? One of the easiest ways to make teatime treats anyway!
